About Us

3DBioFibR Inc., founded in 2020, is a growing biotechnology company currently located in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Collagen fibers produced using our patented dry-spinning technology recapitulate the biomechanical and biochemical properties of natural collagen structures. With a fully automated manufacturing system, we are the first to produce collagen fibers at commercial scales for a variety of tissue engineering applications, including additives for 3D bioprinting and hydrogels, and cellular scaffolds for 2D and 3D cell and tissue culture.

About the Role

Join 3DBioFibR as a Laboratory Technician, supporting day-to-day operational activities within a biomanufacturing environment. In this role you will be focused on manufacturing consistent, high-quality biomaterials, which will include ensuring laboratory readiness, equipment functionality, and material preparation to enable efficient manufacturing, validation, and R&D activities. The position is primarily operational and execution-focused, with responsibilities spanning manufacturing, cell culture, laboratory maintenance, solution preparation, cleaning, equipment verification, documentation, and general technical support across departments as needed.

This is a full-time, on-site position located in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Responsibilities

Operational Support

  • Prepare buffers, dopes, reagents, and solutions according to approved SOPs and batch records.
  • Support routine manufacturing activities as directed.
  • Assist with material transfer, staging, as needed.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and readiness for production activities.
  • Perform equipment cleaning and preparation following controlled procedures.
  • Support basic in-process checks as trained.
  • Carry out other duties and responsibilities related to R&D and manufacturing as required to support business objectives.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and restocking of consumables.

Equipment Maintenance & Verification

  • Calibrate and/or verify laboratory equipment, including but not limited to pH meters, analytical balances, pipettes, ovens, temperature probes.
  • Document calibration and verification activities in accordance with QMS requirements.
  • Identify and report equipment issues or deviations.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance activities as needed.

Laboratory & Facility Support

  • Dispose of chemical and biological waste according to safety procedures.
  • Clean glassware and laboratory tools as per approved SOPs and batch records.
  • Prepare workspaces for validation or R&D studies.
  • Support environmental monitoring activities if required.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete batch records and controlled forms accurately and legibly.
  • Follow established SOPs, safety policies, and ISO 9001/13485 regulations.
  • Support audit readiness by maintaining organized documentation and work areas.
  • Participate in training programs and maintain training compliance.
  • Ensure traceability of materials, reagents, and cell lines.
  • Support deviation reporting, investigations, and corrective actions (CAPA) as required.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide general technical assistance to Manufacturing, Validation, Engineering, and R&D teams.
  • Assist with protocol execution.
  • Support ad hoc laboratory or facility projects as assigned.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks required to maintain workflow efficiency.

Cell Culture Operations

  • Perform routine aseptic culture of adherent and/or suspension cell lines.
  • Execute cell passaging, seeding, feeding, and harvesting.
  • Monitor cell health, morphology, and confluency.
  • Perform cell counting (manual and/or automated) and viability assessments.
  • Cryopreserve and thaw cell lines following established procedures.
  • Maintain cell culture inventory and lineage traceability.
  • Prepare reagents, media, and buffers according to SOPs.
  • Assist in experimental setup and execution under supervision.

BSL-1 Laboratory Practices

  • Adhere to biosafety guidelines appropriate for BSL-1 environments.
  • Maintain clean and organized biosafety cabinets and lab spaces.
  • Properly handle and dispose of biological and chemical waste.
  • Perform routine cleaning and disinfection of work areas.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma or technical degree in chemical laboratory technology, biotechnology, chemical engineering or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 2+ years of experience working in an industry laboratory and/or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work independently and accurately in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Halifax, NS: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

  • Laboratory: 2 years (preferred)
  • Chemical manufacturing: 2 years (preferred)
