The Department of Community Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position, that is available immediately. This is a one-year position with the possibility of extension. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of AI and health sciences, focusing on developing machine learning approaches to assist physicians in the diagnosis and prognosis of complex health conditions. The ideal candidate will have expertise in developing large-scale machine learning models, multimodal health data analysis (e.g., medical imaging) combined with strong analytical skills to evaluate existing methodologies. The research, which will be conducted under the purview of Dr. Mina Nouredanesh, will aim at improving health outcomes, especially in older adults with complex health conditions such as dementia and Parkinson's disease.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, train, and optimize machine learning models tailored for health and biomedical data.

  • Work with diverse data types, including structured/tabular health datasets, medical imaging, genomics, medical text, and time-series signals.

  • Drive the integration of advanced foundation models into clinical applications.

  • Conduct literature reviews.

  • Synthesize findings by contributing to the preparation of manuscripts.

Qualifications:

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a relevant discipline. The PhD must have been awarded within the appropriate time frame: no more than five years from the PhD (or equivalent) degree at the time of application. Candidates nearing completion of their PhD may also apply.

  • Strong background in machine learning and deep learning approaches, preferably with experience in foundation models.

  • Proficiency in Python and experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.

  • Strong publication record in relevant conferences/journals.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations and ethical considerations in AI.

  • Experience with multimodal health data.

  • Ability to work on-site at the University of Manitoba (a hybrid work arrangement that includes remote work can be accommodated).
