As an Engineer III, Field Service, you will deliver advanced technical service and support for Thermo Fisher Scientific's analytical instrumentation solutions, specializing in Chromatography (LC and GC) and Mass Spectrometry. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, qualify, and optimize analytical systems while building trusted customer relationships that maximize laboratory productivity and performance.

As part of the Chromatography & Mass Spectrometry Division (CMD), you will support a diverse portfolio of analytical instrumentation used by leading laboratories across academia, industry, healthcare, and government.

This role offers a high degree of autonomy and is best suited by an experienced field service engineer with a broad analytical instrumentation background across both Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry technologies who can quickly become a trusted technical resource for our customers.

Location/Territory

This is a remote, field-based position supporting customers in Western Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan) with home base preferred in Alberta.

Preference will be given to candidates currently residing in the Edmonton area. Candidates residing elsewhere in Canada who are willing to relocate to the Edmonton area prior to their start date will also be considered.

We are seeking to fill this position as soon as possible. Candidates must already be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application. Visa sponsorship and international relocation assistance are not available for this position.

Daily travel within the assigned territory is required, along with occasional overnight travel (approximately 50%) throughout Western Canada for customer support and training.

Initial and ongoing technical training is conducted primarily in the United States and requires international travel. Candidates must be eligible to travel to the U.S. for required training and business support.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs to maximize customer productivity and instrument uptime.

  • Manage service schedules, complete documentation, and accurately close work orders using company systems.
  • Complete required product training and maintain technical certifications.
  • Work safely in customer laboratory environments while following Thermo Fisher Scientific and customer safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Service organization to provide technical support and share expertise.
  • Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific professionally in every customer interaction.

  • Laboratory or bench chemistry experience is considered an asset.

Experience

  • 5+ years field service experience supporting analytical instrumentation or equivalent technical experience.
  • Candidates with approximately five or more years of progressively responsible field service experience supporting analytical instrumentation are strongly preferred. Equivalent combinations of experience and demonstrated technical expertise across multiple Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry platforms will also be considered.
  • The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise across both Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry instrumentation, with demonstrated experience supporting multiple platforms.
  • Hands-on service experience supporting at least three of the following technologies is strongly preferred, with experience spanning both Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry product lines:
    • Chromatography (GC / LC)
    • Mass Spectrometers (Quadrupole and High Resolution)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Professional proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required.
  • Commitment to safety while working in customer laboratory environments.
