Full job description
Location: West Vancouver, BC
Position: Part-Time / Flexible Hours
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience
About the Position
We are looking for a patient, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic bicycle mechanic to provide private, one-on-one instruction to a young adult with special needs in West Vancouver.
Our goal is to find someone who can teach Remy the fundamentals of bicycle maintenance, repair, and assembly through hands-on, practical lessons.
Remy loves working with her hands, learning new skills, and taking things apart to understand how they work. We would love to build on these interests and help her develop practical mechanical skills that could eventually lead to a part-time job, volunteer opportunity, or small bicycle repair business.
What We’re Looking to Teach
We would like the lessons to cover a variety of bicycle maintenance and repair skills, including:
- Bicycle Assembly & Disassembly: Learning how to safely take apart and reassemble different bicycle components.
- Basic Repairs: Fixing flat tires, replacing tubes, adjusting brakes, and troubleshooting common mechanical issues.
- Cleaning & Maintenance: Properly washing bicycles, lubricating chains, cleaning gears, and performing routine maintenance.
- Tools & Equipment: Understanding how to safely use bicycle repair tools and identify different components.
- More Advanced Skills: Gradually introducing gear adjustments, drivetrain maintenance, wheel care, and other repairs as her abilities develop.
- Job Readiness: Eventually learning how to complete basic bicycle servicing independently, with the possibility of providing simple repair and maintenance services to others.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong experience with bicycle mechanics, repairs, and maintenance.
- Enjoys teaching and explaining mechanical concepts in a simple, hands-on way.
- Is patient, encouraging, adaptable, and comfortable working with a young adult with special needs.
- Can structure lessons around practical projects rather than traditional classroom instruction.
- Can help build confidence, independence, and problem-solving skills.
- Has experience working in a bicycle repair shop or as a professional mechanic (preferred but not required).
Previous experience working with individuals with special needs is an asset, but not a requirement. We are primarily looking for someone with a positive attitude, patience, and a genuine interest in sharing their mechanical knowledge.
Schedule & Location
Lessons would take place in West Vancouver, with a flexible schedule to be arranged based on availability.
We are ideally looking for someone interested in developing an ongoing mentorship relationship, starting with basic bicycle maintenance and gradually progressing toward more advanced mechanical skills.
Access to a workshop or professional bicycle repair equipment would be a bonus.
Our Goal
This is more than just a recreational activity. We would love to help Remy develop a meaningful, practical skill that she genuinely enjoys and could potentially turn into an employment opportunity in the future.
We are looking for someone who can make learning fun, engaging, and rewarding while helping her develop real mechanical abilities.
Interested?
Please reach out with a brief description of your bicycle mechanic experience, availability, and hourly rate.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Pay: $30.00-$45.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Casual dress
- Flexible schedule
