We are seeking a motivated Buyer to join our team. The position is responsible for purchasing, inventory quality, and margin performance within assigned produce categories. This role requires strong market knowledge, independent decision-making with defined parameters, and effective coordination with sales, vendors, and the buying team to optimize product availability and profitability.

Hours:

  • from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • This position requires to be available to work on Saturdays and holidays.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory quality and turnover for all assigned produce categories, ensuring freshness and minimizing waste.
  • Conduct competitive purchasing to secure the best market pricing while maintaining quality standards.
  • Ensure margin performance meets or exceeds company targets for assigned products.
  • Resolve supplier discrepancies related to inspections, quality adjustments, claims, shortages, and cargo receipt variances.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels, balancing supply needs with market demand.
  • Monitor seasonal product availability and proactively identify opportunities to introduce new products or promote existing items.
  • Communicate market intelligence to the sales team to support effective marketing strategies and promotions.
  • Coordinate closely with the Purchasing Manager to address cost fluctuations and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
  • Participate in and support volume sales initiatives, including independent chain store ads, regional group promotions, and in-house marketing campaigns.
  • Review and analyze quality inspection reports, implementing corrective actions as required to uphold product standards.
  • Work as a backup for the Logistic Coordinator.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Post-secondary education; business, supply chain, or agriculture focus preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in produce buying, perishable goods purchasing, or similar category buying.
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in vendor sourcing, evaluation, and management.
  • Solid analytical and forecasting skills; ability to respond to market fluctuations.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in purchasing and inventory systems.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $55,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
