Job description: Registered Care Aide (RCA) (Small Shift, Cluster Care)
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor or Delegated RN/LPN
Work Location: Client's Home

Job Summary:
Provides direct personal care and assistance to injured workers in their homes to support activities of daily living and foster independence, under the supervision of a regulated health care professional.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Reliable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license required for travel between client locations.
  • Comfortable providing cluster care and willing to cover small shifts ranging from 1 to 4 hours, supporting multiple clients within a designated geographic area.
  • Strong time management, communication, and client-centered care skills.
  • Ability and willingness to cover short or last-minute shifts when required.
  • Completion of a recognized Health Care Assistant (HCA) program.
  • Active registration with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Review Program (CRRP) check.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Previous community or home care experience is considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
  • Support safe ambulation, transfers, and positioning using assistive devices.
  • Encourage client independence and participation in self-care where appropriate.
  • Perform simple household tasks including meal preparation and light housekeeping related to care.
  • Provide catheter care, ostomy care, dementia care, and assist with other clinical procedures as required, in accordance with the client’s care plan and Delegation of Task (DOT) instructions under supervision.
  • Observe and report changes in the client's condition to supervising nurse.
  • Maintain documentation and records as per Designated authority protocols.
  • Provide companionship and psychosocial support within the care plan.
  • Follow infection control protocols, including hand hygiene and PPE use.
  • Assist with range of motion (ROM) exercises under supervision.
  • Attend training and orientation as required by the employer.
