Cloud Systems Administrator

Location: Remote - Anywhere in Canada

The total target compensation (TTC) range, including salary and target bonus, is$78,698 - $125,350. This TTC range is applicable to permanent roles only; fixed-term contract and casual roles are not eligible for annual bonus and would receive only the base salary component. The actual base salary offered within this range will be determined by the successful candidate’s skills and experience, as well as internal equity.

Empire Life is looking to hire a Cloud Systems Administrator to join our Technical Infrastructure team! We are actively seeking candidates to fill a current, open position.


The Cloud Systems Administrator provides primary operational support, management, and architectural change design for hybrid IT environments, including on-premise and Multi-Cloud (Azure and Google Cloud Platform) infrastructure. The incumbent is guided by defined goals and objectives and works under the general supervision of the Director, IT Cloud Transformation and Infrastructure, to drive automation, scalability, and automated compliance through Policy as Cod.

What you’ll be working on
  • Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure components (VMs, storage, networks) across Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop and maintain modular Terraform scripts to provision and manage global cloud resources.
  • Configuration Management: Utilize Ansible to automate software deployment and configuration management across multi-cloud environments.
  • Policy as Code (PaC) Integration: Develop and enforce automated governance policies (e.g., using Terraform Sentinel, OPA/Rego, or Azure Policy) to ensure all infrastructure code meets security and budget requirements before deployment.
  • Implement and enforce security policies specifically for Azure and GCP environments.
  • Automated Compliance: Shift security "left" by integrating policy scanning into CI/CD pipelines to catch vulnerabilities in the development phase.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards across all cloud providers via automated auditing.
  • Monitor multi-cloud performance and identify bottlenecks using native tools (Azure Monitor, Google Cloud Observability).
  • Troubleshoot performance issues and implement automated scaling solutions to optimize resource utilization.
  • Provide Tier 2 technical support for cloud-related incidents and participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Contribute to the development of IT infrastructure roadmaps, focusing on multi-cloud interoperability and cloud-native services.


What we’re looking for you to have

  • University degree/college diploma in related discipline(s)
  • 3+ years of work experience in an enterprise systems environment, with a heavy focus on Cloud Operations and Automation.
  • Cloud Platforms: Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Automation Tools: Proficient in Terraform and Ansible.
  • Policy as Code: Hands-on experience with Open Policy Agent (OPA), Sentinel, or Azure Policy as Code frameworks.
  • OS Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments
  • Networking: Strong understanding of VPCs, VNet Peering, Cloud VPN, and Interconnects.
  • Methodology: Extensive experience with ITIL-based change management and DevSecOps best practices.
