Residential Behavioural Counsellor

Location: Orléans & Cumberland, Ontario (Ottawa Area)
Job Types: Full-Time or Part-Time
Wage: $20.00/hour + $3.00/hour wage enhancement
Schedule: Minimum 30 hours/week, including days, evenings, weekends
Work Setting: On-site, In-person

Daily Responsibilities:

As a Residential Behavioural Counsellor, your daily responsibilities center around providing direct care, behavioural support, and supervision to individuals with developmental disabilities and complex needs. You will assist with daily living activities such as grooming, hygiene, meals, and routines, while offering emotional support to foster confidence and independence. Ensuring the safety and well-being of residents is a key priority. You will also implement individualized behaviour support plans using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) principles, proactively manage challenging behaviours, and support crisis prevention and de-escalation when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience:
  • Option A: Minimum 1 year post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., DSW, CSW, Psychology, ABA, Criminology)
  • Option B: 2+ years direct experience with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • Child Abuse Registry Check (provided free)
  • Valid CPR/First Aid
  • Valid G or G2 driver’s license
  • Proof of insurance and 3-year Driver's Abstract

Counselor Development Program

A 3-month, paid hands-on training pathway for those passionate about the field but lacking formal education or experience.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) basics
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation
  • Daily routines and support strategies
  • Experience in both day and residential settings

Details:

  • Duration: 400 hours (approx. 3 months)
  • Schedule: Min. 30 hours/week, including days, evenings and weekends
  • Starting Wage: $17.60/hour + $3.00/hour enhancement
  • Post-Completion Wage: $20.00/hour + $3.00 enhancement

Requirements:

  • Valid G or G2 license
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Commitment to full 3-month training
  • Willingness to assist with personal hygiene care

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $22.00-$23.00 per hour
