Full job description

Established in St. John’s in 2015, MST (Atlantic) Shipping Management ULC (formerly Altera (Atlantic) Management ULC) provides crude oil marine transportation services and manages shuttle tankers operating offshore Newfoundland and Labrador. Maran Shuttle Tankers is currently accepting applications for the position of Second Officer.

Position: Second Officer

Rotation: Five weeks on/off

Status: Permanent

Second Officer required stand bridge watches, operate, and navigate the vessel safely. The Second Officer should have specific knowledge to the maintenance requirements of the bridge equipment.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Transport Canada Watchkeeping Mate (CoC), Class 4
  • Transport Canada Advanced Tanker Safety (Oil) Endorsement required
  • DP Induction Certificate
  • GOC (General Operator’s Certificate)
  • STCW Basic Safety
  • STCW Survival Craft other than Fast Rescue Craft
  • STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
  • STCW Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties
  • Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate (unrestricted)
  • Bridge Resource Management Certificate considered an asset
  • Valid Passport
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment physical, drug and alcohol screening, and background checks

Responsibilities:

  • Promote a strong safety and environmental compliance culture
  • Report any unsafe acts or failure to comply with regulations and/or company procedures to the Master.
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed to provide a safe working environment and minimize the potential for pollution.
  • Perform watches at sea as advised by the Master, and Port watches according to operational requirements with safe navigation.
  • In charge of all bridge equipment operation / maintenance records and notifying the Master in case of any noted defect(s).
  • Performing cargo watches in port as per instructions from Chief Officer.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Responsible for carrying out regular inspections
  • Support safe vessel operations and teamwork onboard
