ABOUT YOU: We are looking for a healthy, fit, passionate, and dedicated individual who is experienced with belaying, climbing and high ropes course instruction and facilitation in an outdoor camp environment. Our ideal candidate has a background safely leading and guiding people of all ages in an adventure-based, interactive learning, possibly outdoor camp environment. You must be curious to learn and grow, flexible/adaptable, enjoys being active, has a natural ability to communicate, lead, manage and work with others.

In a nutshell for this role:

1) You have the skills and a passion in safely guiding/mentoring/teaching in the outdoors with specific adventure/outdoor skills (ropes course, rock-climbing, rappelling - and possibly canoeing, outdoor survival skills, orienteering/map and compass, archery, etc).

2) You are BOTH organized and detailed-oriented AND possess excellent teamwork, communication, social and interpersonal skills.

3) Overall, you are enthusiastic, engaging, outgoing, relational and customer service focused.

LOCATION OF WORK: Most of the work consists of overnight camps over the summer and take place at our ‘Adventure-Learning Centers’ in Maple Ridge and at Shawnigan Lake on Vancouver Island; then extra work assignments over the Spring and Fall can take place in other event venues, parks and camp locations in Maple Ridge, Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: You will be leading / instructing / facilitating highly dynamic outdoor group experiences, activities and events for various groups of various backgrounds and ages. Exact responsibilities of your role will depend on group needs combined with your experience and skills. We will be providing training opportunities to ensure optimal success in this role. PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Relevant experience, background, work history & education.
  • Specialized skills in the following areas: high/low challenge ropes, rappelling, rock climbing, possibly archery, orienteering, canoeing, team-building/group dynamics, camp-craft skills, knots & ropes, map & compass/navigations, and/or other outdoor instructional knowledge and skills
  • Experience working with children and youth and/or adult/corporate sector
  • Current First Aid and CPR “C”
  • Safety minded: awareness & knowledge of program risk-management and assessment
  • The skills and ability to problem solve and exercise good judgment, take initiative, as well as maintain tact and composure in stressful situations
  • Experience in group management, facilitation and team-building dynamics
  • Clear leadership, communication, positive energy & strong relationship skills
