Job purpose

The Lab Support Technician will provide essential operational and technical support to the Quality Control Development Laboratory. This role ensures smooth lab functioning by managing materials, maintaining equipment readiness, supporting testing activities, and maintaining compliance with GMP and safety standards.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide general laboratory support, including sample handling, preparation, and disposal in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, including chemicals, reagents, consumables, and reference standards
  • Coordinate procurement of laboratory consumables by obtaining quotations from approved vendors, placing orders, and following up to ensure timely delivery
  • Wash and restock glassware for the QC laboratory.
  • Dispose of waste solvents and analyzed samples in compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) procedures
  • Coordinate the shipment of samples and packages to external laboratories for analysis
  • Maintain and ensure all analyst training records and binders are accurate, complete, and up to date
  • Perform routine laboratory equipment cleaning and support calibration and preventive maintenance activities
  • Monitor laboratory equipment daily (e.g., refrigerators, freezers, balances).
  • Perform general cleaning of laboratory equipment as required (e.g., ultrasonic baths, ice-methanol baths, fume hoods).
  • Maintain temperature logs, equipment logs, and laboratory housekeeping records in compliance with internal requirements
  • Assist with internal and external audits and inspections by preparing documentation and ensuring laboratory readiness
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, WHMIS requirements, and regulatory standards
  • Work flexible shifts as required.
  • Perform additional laboratory-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager

Additional responsibility (Only applicable to customer facing roles)


Report any adverse event received from customers for company products to the pharmacovigilance department / Drug Safety on the same day or within 1 business day


Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • High School diploma (Grade 12) or diploma in science discipline

Experience:

  • 1–3 years of experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, or analytical laboratory environment
  • Experience working in a GMP-regulated environment is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
  • General knowledge of chemicals and Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Ability to perform routine problem-solving and make sound decisions

Working conditions

  • Laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and analytical instruments
  • Numerous and varied responsibilities demanding attention and detail
  • May require occasional extended hours during critical projects or audits

Physical requirements

  • Required to wear appropriate PPE
  • Ability to safely lift 5–10 litre solvent containers

The presently-anticipated base compensation pay range for this position is $50,000 to $62,500. Actual base compensation may vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to geographical location and experience. In addition, this position is part of the Annual Performance Bonus Plan. Employees are eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs which include medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; RRSP savings plan; and the employee assistance program. Employees also receive various paid time off benefits, including vacation time and sick time.


The compensation and benefits described above are subject to the terms and conditions of any governing plans, policies, practices, agreements, or other materials or documents as in effect from time to time, including but not limited to terms and conditions regarding eligibility.
