Job Summary
We are looking for an Assistant General Manager to join our growing Breakwater team! The Assistant General Manager plays a vital role in the daily operations of our establishment, ensuring that all aspects of the restaurant run smoothly and efficiently. This position requires a dynamic leader who can manage staff, oversee food service operations, and maintain high standards of customer service. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in the food industry, with experience in both quick service and fine dining environments. We are looking for someone positive, hard working and willing to work alongside our General Manager to make sure the Breakwater Bistro & Café To-Go is always running smoothly.

The ideal candidate will have beer, wine, and cocktail knowledge, as well as previous experience in the F&B industry. Managers are expected to work in a professional manner, be flexible, proactive, and enthusiastic.

Beyond the base reimbursement listed, this position would also be eligible to receive a portion of the house tip pool.

Responsibilities

• Assist the General Manager in overseeing daily operations and staff management of Breakwater Bistro & Café To-Go.
• Assist in the adherence to, and creation of, Standard Operating Procedures, as well as Breakwater documented policies and procedures.
• Supervise kitchen food line to ensure quality food production and presentation.
• Assist in hiring processes for new staff members.
• Lead shift management to ensure efficient service during peak hours. Floor Management, supporting service staff, and ensuring guest satisfaction.
• Respond to the dynamics of the service environment, being proactive at quiet times and anticipating/ meeting the needs of a fast-paced restaurant environment.
• Foster a positive work environment through effective team management and leadership.
• Excellent customer service skills with a focus on creating memorable dining experiences.
• Familiarity with cash handling procedures and POS systems (Silverware or Toast preferred).
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
• Communicate effectively with General Manager pertaining to staff scheduling, staff requests, and managing labor cost diligently.
• Cross-train! Developing skills that enable you to work as a Barista, Bartender, Server, Host or Expo as needed.
• Cash Management: Daily server cash outs reconciliation and tips distribution as needed.
• Assisting Bar Manager in controlling inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS).
• Assisting with menu planning, item pricing, merchandising and publishing menus.
• Making necessary POS adjustments to accommodate features or resolving glitches as they appear.
• Assist with email requests, telephone requests, responding to google reviews, and simple website updates.
• Social Media participation and content ideas encouraged.
• Proactively assist all coworkers as required.
• Other duties as required.

Experience

• Proven experience in restaurant management or as an Assistant Manager within the food service industry.
• Strong background in food preparation, cooking, and kitchen management.
• Familiarity with cash handling procedures and POS systems
• Experience in supervising staff, training & development, and team management.
• Knowledge of food handling practices, safety regulations, and hospitality management principles.
• Previous experience in casual dining or fine dining establishments is highly desirable.
• Culinary experience or formal culinary training is a plus.
• Excellent customer service skills with a focus on creating memorable dining experiences.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
