Northwood is currently accepting applications for a Full time Mental Health Programmer to join our SEEDS for Success team in Halifax & Bedford!

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Occupational Therapy Assistant, Therapeutic Recreation or Mental Health Recovery and Promotion
  • Minimum of one to two years of relevant work experience
  • Long term care experience is considered an asset
  • Experience working in mental health and wellness is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • CPR/First Aid required; WHMIS required
  • Ability to lift and transfer up to 44lbs
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis according to Northwood’s corporate standard

Responsibilities:

  • Program development for both group Creative Expressions & Gardening, with input from Occupational Therapy.
  • Create and facilitate weekly group programming for Seeds.
  • Supervises Gardening volunteers.
  • Plan, prepare and oversee Gardening Program. Including preparation of planters, purchasing of seeds and perennials.
  • Oversee special gardening projects with summer students (Butterfly Garden, Healing Herb Garden)
  • Maintain up to date client lists. Including daily record keeping for attendance, progress notes, PCC.
  • Assist with the development and facilitation of Support Groups (Anxiety, Depression).
  • Create, schedule and facilitate seasonal retail sales (craft and produce).
  • Create and coordinate weekly community Art Drop in sessions.
  • Provides one on one support and assistance for program and therapeutic support
  • Maintains supply inventory.
  • Submits work orders for necessary maintenance of outdoor spaces.
  • Creates accessible gardening activities for participants
  • Maintains all indoor plants, oversees special gardening projects and responsible for daily, weekly and seasonal cleaning for the ML Centre and Greenhouse.
  • Liaison with the Volunteer Coordinator for recruitment of volunteers.
  • Provides orientation, training, scheduling and supervision of volunteers.
  • Assists with training, supervision and direction to summer assistants and interns, with the support of Occupational Therapy.
  • Notifies unit staff of appointments for residents.
  • Assist Occupational Therapy with intake process and assists in establishing participant goals.
  • Contribute to fundraising initiatives, tours and exhibitions.
  • Host special celebrations for participants.
  • Host art programming with guest artists.
  • Coordinate with Music Therapy to organize monthly Music Maker group.
  • Work with participants and Occupational Therapy to produce seasonal Seeds Newsletter.

Hours of Work: 80 hours biweekly - Days/Evenings (6-8 hour shifts)
