Position Title: Project Manager
Employment Type: Contract (10 to 20 hours/week to start, potential to move to full time)
Location: Ottawa, ON
Language Requirements: English or Bilingual (English and French)

Role Overview:
We are looking for a passionate Project Manager to lead impactful research and data management projects across Canada. You will coordinate diverse, cross-functional teams by providing project oversight and support. This position is perfect for professionals looking for flexible work who have experience in project management. You will also manage schedules, budgets, compliance and risk management with the support from a Project Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities
Project Management and Execution:

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive project plans, including objectives, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Lead teams to meet critical milestones and deliverables, ensuring alignment with internal and external stakeholder objectives.
  • Build and maintain project schedules, task trackers, and workflows.
  • Assign and monitor tasks to ensure milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Track budgets, expenses, risks, and issues; escalate and support resolution.
  • Coordinate approvals, documentation, and ensure files are accurate and audit-ready

Team Management:

  • Lead team meetings, set agendas, document action items, and ensure follow-up.
  • Provide day-to-day direction to remove blockers and maintain project momentum.
  • Guide and mentor team members to support strong performance and accountability

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Maintain transparent and culturally sensitive communication with clients, communities, and partners.
  • Uphold respect for Indigenous protocols, values, and cultural safety principles.
  • Collaborate on projects addressing key issues like MMIWG, Métis rights, Truth and Reconciliation, or related priorities identified by First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare reports, briefings, dashboards, and progress updates.
  • Maintain organized, secure digital records in compliance with data policies.
  • Track reporting requirements and document lessons learned at project close-out

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, social sciences, data management, or a related field and/or Project Management certification
  • 3+ years of experience managing complex research or data-driven projects, particularly those related to Indigenous issues.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for stakeholder and team meetings.
  • Strong knowledge of archival research, Indigenous history, and cultural sensitivity practices.
  • Eligible for PWGSC security clearance.
  • Bilingual (English and French considered an asset).
  • Familiarity with Prosci change management methodologies considered an asse
  • Expertise in cultural safety best practice considered an asset
