PEOPLE & CULTURE COORDINATOR

40 hours per week | HYBRID | $48,000 - $55,000 Annual Salary

About the Role

The People & Culture Coordinator provides operational and administrative support across the organization’s People & Culture portfolio, helping create an exceptional employee and volunteer experience. Working closely with the Director, People & Culture and Volunteer Program Manager, this role supports recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, health and safety, learning and development, performance management, HR administration, and culture-building initiatives.

The successful candidate is highly organized, proactive, collaborative, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and contribute to a positive, inclusive, and engaging workplace culture.

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate recruitment activities, candidate communications, interviews, reference checks, recruitment documentation, and onboarding.
  • Support employee and volunteer onboarding, including orientation, documentation, training requirements, and tracking.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, HRIS information, benefits administration, and employee lifecycle documentation.
  • Support employee engagement, recognition, wellness, Social Committee activities, Town Halls, staff meetings, and culture-building initiatives.
  • Partner with the Volunteer Program Manager to support volunteer engagement, recognition, communications, onboarding, and appreciation initiatives.
  • Provide administrative support for health and safety programs, including JHSC activities, projects, policies, training, inspections, documentation, and compliance tracking.
  • Coordinate employee training and professional development, including scheduling, attendance, records, and mandatory training compliance.
  • Coordinate the annual performance review cycle, including timelines, reminders, documentation, and tracking.
  • Support employee engagement surveys, People & Culture reporting, metrics, dashboards, and action plans.
  • · Assist with People & Culture policies, procedures, templates, compliance documentation, audits, and process improvements.
  • · Support equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives and contribute to an inclusive employee and volunteer experience.
  • · Provide project coordination and administrative support for People & Culture and organization-wide initiatives.

What You’ll Bring

  • Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in Human Resources, People & Culture, administration, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, and/or health and safety initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, communication, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • Experience using HRIS systems, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and occupational health and safety requirements is an asset.
  • Experience supporting volunteer programs, community programs, or not-for-profit organizations is an asset.
  • CHRP designation or working toward designation is an asset.
  • JHSC certification considered an asset.
  • A high degree of mental alertness and the ability to navigate sensitive or challenging situations with professionalism and confidentiality.

Working Conditions

The work environment inherently contains common animal-related allergens, including but not limited to fur, dander, and cleaning agents. This role may also require prolonged sitting or standing (up to 8 hours/day), computer usage for extended periods, as well as walking, bending as necessary. As such, you can perform all the essential duties of the position in such an environment. This role may be subject to various interruptions and several requests during a workday. There is some exposure to disagreeable situations or people, and a high degree of mental alertness is required to ensure the safety of self and others.
