Transit Operator

Casual Position -On-Call | Split-Shifts | Daytime, Evening, Weekend Shifts

As a Transit Operator driving our smaller community shuttle buses, you’re not just behind the wheel, you’re part of the heartbeat of the town. Every trip is a chance to connect, support, and make someone's day a little easier. If you’re dependable, people-focused, and love the idea of driving with purpose, this role is calling your name.

This role is ideal for a local worker with another job looking to work on their off days, a freelancer, or someone that is semi-retired.

What You’ll Do:

  • Safely transport passengers between cities
  • Assist passengers with boarding, exiting, and securing mobility aids (if needed)
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness
  • Operate a two-way radio and manage fares accurately
  • Maintain a safe and harassment-free environment for everyone
  • Report any incidents, vehicle defects, or passenger safety concerns
  • Fuel, wash, and check fluid levels of the vehicle
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle as required by Provincial legislation and record any minor vehicle defects onto the vehicle daily

What We’re Looking For:

  • Valid Driver's License - minimum of Class 4
  • Ability to pass a required enhanced criminal record check, and drug & alcohol test
  • Provide a clean commercial driver's abstract
  • Ability to work independently and interact politely with the public and staff
  • Physically able to perform all job duties
  • Exceptional customer service skills

What We Offer:

  • Casual Position - On-Call schedule to fill in for sick days and vacations.
  • Daytime, Evening, Weekend & Split-Shifts Required
  • Shifts Range From 3.5 - 11.5 Hours
  • Health & Dental Benefits, RRSP Contribution Opportunities
  • Union: Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1724
  • Wage:
    • $26.62/hr for first 80 hours and during training
    • $31.07/hr for the next 400 hours
    • $31.32/hr thereafter
