Opportunity

Do you love working with and fixing vehicles? As a Vehicle Technician in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), you’ll be responsible for maintaining, repairing and overhauling land vehicles.

This position is available full-time or part-time, or as part of our paid education program.

Overview

The primary responsibilities of Vehicle Technicians are to:

  • Inspect, repair, overhaul and modify all types of automotive equipment, systems and components
  • Repair, adjust, overhaul and modify powered equipment
  • Use and maintain common and specialized tools, basic garage hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic equipment and oxyacetylene welding equipment
  • Carry out the recovery of all types of vehicles used in the land forces, utilizing standard towing trucks and specialized tracked and wheeled recovery vehicles
  • Drive all types of vehicles ranging from small support wheel vehicles to tank transporters
  • Perform in land operations, when necessary, fight as infantry

To be eligible to apply to the CAF, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada;
  • Be at least 18 years old (17 years old with parental consent), except:
  • For the Paid Education programs, you may be 16 years old (with parental consent);
  • For the Primary Reserve, you may be 16 years old (with parental consent) and must be enrolled as a full-time student;
  • Have completed at least Grade 10 or Secondary IV in Québec (some jobs need higher levels of education).

Required Education

The minimum required education to apply for this position is the completion of provincial requirements for Grade 10 or Secondary IV in Quebec, including:

  • Grade 10 Applied Math or Math 416 (CST 4 in Quebec); and
  • Grade 10 Science or equivalent

Foreign education may be accepted.

Direct Entry Plan

The ideal candidate will already have a college diploma, the CAF will decide if your academic program matches the training criteria for this job and may place you directly into any required on-the-job training program following basic training.
