Full job description
Regional Fertility Program is hiring a Temporary (12-Month ) Full-Time Andrologist role located at our Calgary location.
The Andrologist performs specialized diagnostic and therapeutic laboratory procedures supporting fertility assessment and assisted reproductive treatments. This role works collaboratively with physicians, embryologists, nursing staff, and other members of the fertility care team to provide accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory services.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized semen analysis, including assessment of motility, concentration, vitality, morphology, and other physical properties.
- Perform sperm preparation for IUI, IVF, and other ART procedures.
- Perform post-vasectomy semen analysis and other specialized Andrology testing.
- Perform semen cryopreservation and thawing, including specimens obtained through PESA, TESE, micro-TESE, and other surgical retrieval procedures.
- Assist with specimen preparation and coordination for surgical sperm retrieval procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy and hormone assays using an immunoassay analyzer.
- Receive, process, label, document, store, and maintain patient specimens according to laboratory quality and traceability requirements.
- Prepare laboratory media, reagents, staining solutions, and other materials.
- Maintain accurate patient, quality control, cryostorage, equipment, and laboratory records.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Participate in quality assurance, proficiency testing, audits, accreditation activities, competency assessments, and continuous quality improvement.
- Assist with inventory monitoring and ordering of laboratory supplies.
- Collaborate with patients, physicians, embryologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in a professional and confidential manner.
- Participate in rotational scheduling, including weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage as operationally required.
Education & Qualifications
- Completion of a related technical school diploma with two to three years of relevant technical experience; or
- Completion of a university degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, Reproductive Sciences, or a related field with relevant technical experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Previous experience in Andrology, fertility, reproductive medicine, or an ART/IVF laboratory is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures and techniques related to specimen analysis.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, assess workload, and prioritize responsibilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a professional and compassionate approach to patient care.
- Ability to travel within North America to clinics within the Inception network, as well as to attend required conferences, meetings, and training activities.
