Position Available: Montessori Classroom Assistant (1.0 FTE)

Start Date: August 26, 2026

Location: Montessori School of Calgary, Calgary AB

Montessori School of Calgary (MSofC) is seeking a passionate and experienced, Montessori Classroom Assistant to join our vibrant team. Reporting to the Head of School, this full-time position involves supporting the lead guide within a multi-aged (3-6 yr olds) Montessori classroom. We are looking for a collaborative educator who brings warmth, professionalism, and a deep commitment to Montessori philosophy.

Founded in 1983, MSofC is a not-for-profit independent school offering authentic Montessori education to children aged 3 to 12. Our program blends Montessori pedagogy with Alberta Education curricula. Our vibrant school community is located in the historic Cliff Bungalow School in downtown Calgary, providing a unique and inspiring setting for learning.

Key Responsibilities:

· Assist with daily operation of the classroom while preserving the integrity of the Montessori philosophy and Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) standards

· Support Montessori Guide in maintaining a clean, orderly and attractive, prepared environment conducive to independent learning

· Foster a warm, calm, and respectful classroom culture promoting independence, concentration, and social responsibility

· Under the guidance of the guide, respectfully observe children and respond to their needs

· Assist in documenting observations and communicating relevant information to guide

· Assist children with practical life routines - dressing, toileting, handwashing, snack, lunch, and outdoor transitions, as appropriate

· Supervise students during outdoor lunch recess

· Assist with daily opening and closing routines

· Prepare, clean and organize Montessori materials and classroom resources

· Follow school policies, health and safety procedures, and emergency protocols

· Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events as required

· Build positive, professional relationships with colleagues, students, and families while maintaining confidentiality at all times

Qualifications:

· AMI Classroom Assistant Certificate (3–6) or willingness to obtain certification

· Experience working with children in a Montessori or early childhood setting is preferred

· Demonstrated understanding of Montessori philosophy and child development

· Patient, calm, nurturing, and respectful approach to working with children

· Strong observation skills and attention to detail

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple responsibilities

· Physically able to engage in classroom activities, including lifting, bending, kneeling, and supervising children indoors and outdoors

· Current Standard Child Care First Aid and CPR/AED Level B certification (or willingness to obtain)

· Current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (or ability to obtain before employment)

· Proficiency in computer applications including email and calendar applications
