Horticulturist/Gardener
We are expanding our Team!

Position for an enthusiastic Horticulturist/gardener candidate to work with the grounds keeping Team with the maintenance of a private estate in Kingston (Ontario).

Does your background include maintaining well established grounds, including perennial gardens, ornamental shrubs, hardscape, landscaping, and operating and maintaining small powered equipment? Do you prefer to work outside, and have some autonomy in your daily routine? Do you possess a strong work ethic, the ability to manage multiple tasks and a commitment to teamwork? If so, this recurring annual position with its variety of duties will interest you.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining the expansive grounds on the estate and two additional properties
  • Keeping garden beds, trees and lawns tidy;
  • planting and caring for annuals and perennials;
  • Working as part of a Team, assisting the Team with the maintenance and appearance of the expansive flower beds on the large property ;
  • The above includes pruning, trimming, fertilizing, pesticide application, fertilizing, watering, digging, raking, weeding, and mulching;
  • Insuring irrigation systems are working correctly
  • Maintaining the gardening equipment
  • Winter snow removal duties

Must haves:

  • Previous experience in gardening, horticulture, groundskeeping and landscaping.
  • Ability to use and maintain hand and mechanical tools, as well as small landscaping equipment, lawn tractors and tractor.
  • Physical fitness, including capability of bending, and lifting and carrying up to 25 kg (~50 lbs)
  • Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a team environment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to follow instructions and to take pride in work completed
  • Flexible availability, some weekend work is required on a rotational basis

In addition you must have:

  • a clean police record
  • a valid class "G" driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario

Communication Skills:

  • Articulate communication skills to provide clear information to colleagues and supervisors.
  • Interpersonal and service skills to deal respectfully with residents, colleagues and contractors.
  • Ability to follow instructions clearly.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven ability to complete projects within acceptable timeframes and deal with competing projects.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $27.00-$29.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Kingston, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
