Project Engineer
The primary responsibilities of this position involve understanding customers' requirements and designing both the mechanical and electrical aspects of connectors in accordance with our manufacturing and vendor capabilities. The ideal candidate will be a motivated and driven individual with a strong sense of ownership, capable of collaborating effectively with other teams. We are looking for someone who demonstrates a strong professional attitude, is committed to meeting deadlines, has a solid background in mechanical design and engineering, and possesses excellent communication skills. Performance will be evaluated based on innovation, productivity, decision-making, and accuracy.
What does a Project Engineer do?
- Develop new or revised interconnects by analyzing connector requirements and designing to meet customer specifications
- Perform mechanical and electrical design and analysis
- Ensure manufacturing feasibility with molding, machining, additive manufacturing, thin strip progressive stamping, and automated assembly manufacturing processes
- Facilitate design for manufacturability (DFM) by collaborating with internal and external development teams
- Specify materials for molding, metal parts, stamping, die-casting, and plating requirements
- Actively participate in design reviews, testing, and the introduction of new products and product derivatives.
- Reduce product design risks through activities such as FEA, DFMEA, tolerance analysis, prototyping, and verification testing before production launch
- Conduct or assist with technical trials and testing
- Review and process drawings, BOMs, and Engineering ERP system information
- Resolve engineering and design issues using structured root cause analysis techniques
- Assist with troubleshooting issues and implement effective solutions
- Identify and implement cost reductions strategies
- Support Marketing with new product inquiries to ensure a successful program launch
- Actively participate in the improvement of Engineering processes and systems
- Identify and source new technologies for product implementation
- Participate in interdivisional technical meetings as needed
- Other related duties as required
What do you bring to the table
- Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- 5 years of design experience, including proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
- Adaptability and flexibility in response to changing priorities.
- Strong communication skills
- Experience in small part design and manufacturing
- Proficient in GD&T
- Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Proven experience in managing multiple projects and consistently meeting deadlines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Desired:
- Professional Engineer designation
- Experience in electrical interconnect design
- Knowledge of progressive stamping, injection molding, and additive manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of materials such as polymers, elastomers, and metals, including related aerospace requirements
- MBD Model based definition knowledge
- FEA, simulation and modeling experience (SolidWorks Simulation)
- Experience in failure mode analysis
- Military and Aerospace specification familiarity
- Knowledge of SolidWorks PDM
- Direct customer interface experience on technical design related topics
- Project management
The base salary range for this position is $75,000 – $85,000 annually. In determining the rate of pay, Amphenol considers a variety of nondiscriminatory factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant industry experience, qualifications, skills, and education. It would be rare for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for a given role. Base salary is one facet of Amphenol’s total rewards package which includes participation in our comprehensive benefits program with medical, dental, and vision benefits, vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, life insurance, short/long term disability, and membership in our Defined Contribution Pension Plan. Our employees are also eligible for participation in an annual incentive bonus program based on their position.
