Junior Technical Designer – Fabrication & Production

Build Things That Actually Get Built.

MJY Fabrication Inc. creates custom environments, experiential activations, exhibits, displays, signage and one-of-a-kind fabricated projects.

Our designers don't just create something on a screen. They get to walk into the shop and see it being CNC machined, fabricated and assembled, then see the finished project installed in the real world.

This is technical design that gets built.

If you're interested in design, fabrication and understanding how things actually come together, keep reading.

Where We're Going

MJY is growing. We're investing in better equipment, taking on increasingly ambitious projects and continuing to develop our design and fabrication capabilities.

We're looking for someone early in their career who wants to develop their technical abilities, learn from our Lead Designer and grow alongside the company.

Why Join MJY?

  • Design Work That Becomes Real: See the things you model and draw actually get fabricated, assembled and installed.
  • Learn Through Real Projects: Work under our Lead Designer and alongside our fabrication team to understand how design decisions translate into the real world.
  • Interesting, Varied Work: Projects range from experiential activations and exhibits to retail displays, signage and completely custom builds.
  • Opportunity to Grow: As your abilities develop, you'll take on increasingly complex technical work and greater responsibility.

The Role

We're hiring a Junior Technical Designer – Fabrication & Production to join our team full-time in Vancouver.

You'll work under our Lead Designer to turn concepts, sketches and client requirements into accurate, buildable solutions.

This is a junior position. You'll receive direction, mentorship and review while being expected to take increasing ownership of your work as your abilities develop.

You won't be expected to know everything on day one. You will be expected to think, ask good questions, stay organized, check your work and follow through.

Responsibilities

  • 3D modelling in Autodesk Fusion 360
  • Producing fabrication, production and assembly drawings
  • Turning concepts and sketches into buildable solutions
  • Thinking through materials, construction methods, hardware and assembly
  • Preparing and supporting files for CNC production
  • Reviewing dimensions and technical information
  • Working with our fabrication team to solve production challenges
  • Revising drawings based on design and production feedback
  • Supporting basic graphic design and production artwork using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Maintaining organized drawings and project files
  • Occasionally assisting with shop work, assembly or on-site project requirements

What We're Looking For

  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Fusion 360
  • Experience with 3D modelling and technical drawings
  • Strong spatial and technical problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator and/or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to take direction, ask good questions and follow through
  • Genuine interest in fabrication and understanding how things are built
  • Professional, reliable and collaborative
  • Desire to learn, develop and take increasing ownership

Experience with CNC machining, woodworking, millwork, industrial design, custom fabrication, exhibits, displays, signage or similar work is an asset.

You don't need to know every material or fabrication process we use. You do need to be curious about how things are actually made.

A Hands-On Team

This is primarily a design position, but MJY is a hands-on, collaborative company.

From time to time, projects may require additional support in the shop, during assembly or on site for an installation. We believe understanding how something is fabricated, assembled and installed makes you a better technical designer.

At MJY, we work together to get great projects across the finish line.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $25.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on experience and technical capability
  • Full-time position
  • In-person position in Vancouver, BC
  • Extended health care
  • On-site parking

Apply

We're interested in what you've done so far, but we're also interested in what you want to learn, what you want to build and where you want to go next.
