Full job description

Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society (LFVAS) is accepting applications for a Basic Needs Worker.

LFVAS is an Indigenous-led non-profit organization, comprised of a dedicated group of individuals who promote, support, and advocate for services to meet the needs of Indigenous people in Langley.

Reporting to the Housing Program Coordinator, the Basic Needs Worker will help meet clients' basic needs by providing lunches, harm reduction supplies, hygiene products, clothing, and groceries. The successful applicant will assist with intakes, communicate with clients and community partners in person, on the phone or by email. This role supports housing staff to organize groups, programs, services, and community events while working as part of a team. This position is ideal for someone either studying or interested in human services, social work, mental health, and substance use services, community justice, or Indigenous Studies.

The successful applicant must be administering Naloxone and being part of a team that delivers year round street outreach to our most vulnerable and entrenched clients.

TERM: Start ASAP

SALARY: $24.75-$27.54 per hour

HOURS OF WORK: Monday – Friday 9:00am – 4:30pm

28-30 hours per week. Evenings and weekends as required.

WORK LOCATION: Langley and surrounding areas

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Diploma (or studying) in human services with an emphasize on meeting the needs of vulnerable populations

· Lived experience or working knowledge of the toxic drug crisis, addictions, and treatment

· Experience volunteering or working with children, youth, and/or vulnerable populations

· Basic proficiency of Microsoft Office365 applications (e.g., Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook)

· Emergency First Aid with CPR/AED Level A (or willing to complete)

· Food Safe Level 1 Certificate (or willing to complete)

· Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity including walking, standing, bending, lifting of objects, set up and tear down of events

· Must be well-versed in cultural sensitivity and have understanding and knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions and historical issues impacting urban Indigenous families
