Full job description
Marcon Metal is seeking an experienced Business Transformation Manager to lead business transformation, process improvement, organizational change, and operational excellence initiatives across the organization.
This is a proactive, hands-on role responsible for identifying process gaps, inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities to improve how the organization operates. The successful candidate will develop a deep understanding of how work is actually performed by engaging with employees and leaders at all levels, including frontline and operational teams.
Working closely with the Executive Team, the Business Transformation Manager will identify and prioritize enterprise-wide improvement opportunities, assess root causes, develop practical and data-driven solutions, build stakeholder alignment, and present recommendations for executive review and approval. Once approved, the role will lead initiatives through implementation, organizational adoption, measurement, and continuous improvement.
The role covers the full transformation lifecycle:
Assess → Diagnose → Design → Align → Approve → Implement → Adopt → Measure → Sustain
Key Responsibilities
Process Improvement & Solution Development
- Develop a strong understanding of the organization’s processes, systems, workflows, and operating practices.
- Engage directly with employees and leaders to observe how work is actually performed, identify pain points, and understand the reasons behind process gaps and inconsistencies.
- Analyze end-to-end and cross-functional processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, duplication, rework, unnecessary handoffs, and non-value-added activities.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and assess impacts on productivity, cost, schedule, quality, customer experience, and organizational performance.
- Prioritize improvement opportunities based on business impact, feasibility, risk, and strategic importance.
- Develop practical, scalable, and sustainable solutions supported by data, employee feedback, process observation, and business analysis.
- Prepare recommendations and business cases outlining the issue, proposed solution, expected benefits, risks, implementation requirements, and success measures.
- Build stakeholder alignment and present recommendations to the Vice President, Sales, Engineering & PMO and, where appropriate, the Executive Team for review and approval.
Implementation & Change Management
- Lead approved transformation and process improvement initiatives from planning through implementation, adoption, and stabilization.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities, manage dependencies and risks, resolve implementation barriers, and ensure improvements are embedded into daily operations.
- Assess organizational readiness and change impacts and develop appropriate stakeholder engagement, communication, training, coaching, and support plans.
- Anticipate and address resistance while working with leaders and managers to build sponsorship and reinforce new ways of working.
- Establish performance measures, track adoption and business results, conduct post-implementation reviews, and make adjustments where required.
- Ensure successful changes are incorporated into standard business practices and sustained over time.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Build trusted relationships across all levels and functions of the organization.
- Lead effectively in a strong matrix environment and influence stakeholders without formal authority.
- Bring diverse functional perspectives together around common business objectives.
- Facilitate complex discussions, navigate competing priorities, and maintain credibility with both frontline employees and senior leadership.
- Respect functional expertise while constructively challenging the status quo and promoting continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Project Management, Organizational Development, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is considered an asset.
- Approximately 7+ years of progressive experience in business transformation, process improvement, organizational change, operational excellence, business process management, or a related field.
- Strong experience working within project-based organizations or industries.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify improvement opportunities, analyze complex processes, determine root causes, and develop practical solutions.
- Experience developing business cases and presenting recommendations to senior management and executive leadership.
- Proven experience leading cross-functional initiatives from concept and leadership approval through implementation and adoption.
- Strong practical experience in organizational change management, including stakeholder engagement, communication, resistance management, training, adoption, and reinforcement.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively within a matrix organization and influence without formal authority.
- Experience establishing performance measures and evaluating the results of business improvement initiatives.
- Ability to travel to the United States on an intermittent basis to meet with leaders at our Ferndale, Washington facility.
- Experience in structural steel, construction, manufacturing, fabrication, engineering, heavy industrial, or similar project-based environments is considered a strong asset.
What You Bring
You are curious, proactive, analytical, and pragmatic, with the ability to move comfortably between detailed operational processes and strategic business discussions.
You seek out opportunities rather than waiting for them to be assigned. You engage the people closest to the work, ask the right questions, identify root causes, and respectfully challenge existing practices when there is a better way to operate.
You are a strong communicator and facilitator who can build trust across organizational levels, navigate competing priorities, and influence without relying on formal authority.
Most importantly, you combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution. You can translate operational observations into practical solutions, build stakeholder and executive alignment, secure approval, and remain accountable through implementation, adoption, measurement, and sustained results.
