Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Care Manager, the Peer Support Worker (PSW) is a key member of the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) Clinic team at Royal Alexandra Hospital. This role works collaboratively with the Recovery Response Team, Emergency Department, and the Acute Care Addiction Recovery Program (ACARP) to support individuals accessing addiction care across inpatient, emergency, and outpatient settings. Grounded in lived experience, the PSW provides compassionate, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented support to clients navigating substance use, health systems, and community resources. The PSW supports outpatient clinic operations by engaging clients, assisting with system navigation, and helping connect individuals to appropriate medical, social, and community-based supports. The PSW plays a vital role in fostering trust, reducing stigma, and enhancing continuity of care. Working closely with interdisciplinary team members, the PSW uses their unique lived experience to support patient engagement, readiness for change, and connection to ongoing care. This is a dynamic, relationship-focused role located within a clinic on the Royal Alexandra Hospital campus. The RAAM Clinic provides transitional, outpatient-based care, and this role is well suited to someone who is adaptable, collaborative, and passionate about supporting people with substance use concerns as they move between hospital and community-based care. Our team is committed to providing Mental Health and Addiction care to persons recovering from and living with Addiction. We work with other teams to alleviate stigma, create safety and timely access to care. We are looking for an effective and hard worker; a person who owns their story and leads with compassion, understanding and hope.

Description:

As a Peer Support Worker, you will provide interventions and supports that are complementary to the work of a multi-disciplinary outreach team. The team functions together to provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services for the diverse needs of clients navigating life impacting experiences. Through your own lived experience(s), and experiences of recovery and resilience, as the Peer Support Worker, you can authentically inspire hope to clients by sharing your story, offering mentorship and support; advocating for client needs; and supporting an integrated and resiliency/recovery-oriented health care and treatment experience.
