Full job description

Electronics Field Technician – Door Automation & Access Control

Actively interviewing now. For qualified applicants, the first step is a short 10-minute phone call.

Pop-A-Lock specializes in installing and repairing commercial door hardware and low-voltage control systems. In addition to traditional locks and keys, we install and maintain door operators, electrified door hardware, access control systems, and CCTV systems for building owners, contractors, and security integrators across the province. We continue to grow and are looking to bring on additional technicians.

Two Candidate Pathways. We are open to two types of candidates:

1. Experienced Field Service Technicians

You may be a fit if you have experience with automatic door operators; access control or security systems; cameras, electric strikes, maglocks, or motorized exit devices; low-voltage electrical work; door closers; exit devices; storefront, wood, or steel doors.

Experienced candidates may qualify for the higher end of the pay range.

2. Junior Technician / Electronics Graduate

You may be a fit if you are a recent NSCC or NBCC graduate, or an early-career candidate with formal training in electronics or electrical technology, electronics or electrical engineering technology, electromechanical technology, or low-voltage technology, including automation, controls, or related technical programs.

We can train you in door hardware and field installation aspects of the role, but we are especially interested in candidates who already understand basic electrical, electronic, and networking concepts. Formal training in electronics, electrical, electromechanical, or electronic systems is strongly preferred for junior candidates.

You’ll Be a Strong Fit If You

  • Previous field service experience
  • Can work independently without step-by-step instructions
  • Take pride in clean, reliable work
  • Are dependable, punctual, and safety-minded
  • Can follow shop drawings, schematic diagrams, and manufacturer instructions
  • Are comfortable working at construction sites
  • Can communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and team members
  • Are adept at configuring Windows PCs and troubleshooting network issues

Requirements

  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license
  • Able to pass a security check
  • Reliable transportation to/from the office – company truck supplied during work hours
  • Comfortable with lifting, drilling, using tools, using ladders, and physically active work
  • Post-secondary training or equivalent background and experience

What We Offer

  • $22–$32/hour, based on experience and skill level
  • Stable, long-term work — not seasonal or project-based
  • An autonomous work environment where you get to be “the expert”
  • Opportunity to build specialized skills in a rapidly growing industry
  • Company vehicle, tools, and equipment after training/onboarding
  • Health spending account

Why Join Pop-A-Lock?

We’re a small, highly skilled team known for our quality work and technical excellence. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work and solving real-world problems.

Pay: $22.00-$32.00 per hour

Application question(s):

  • Do you currently reside in the Halifax area and have reliable transportation to/from work?
  • Are you legally authorized to work in Canada for Pop-A-Lock on a full-time, permanent basis? If your authorization has an expiry date or employer-specific conditions, please detail them.
  • Which pathway best describes you: experienced technician or junior candidate with formal training? Briefly describe your previous experience or training and explain why you believe you are a good fit for our role.
