Job Overview

As a Manager, you will be responsible for leading a large, geographically dispersed team supporting critical healthcare logistics services for a medically-focused transportation contract. Overseeing a fleet of 27 vehicles, 48 drivers, and 3 support staff, you will ensure the safe and reliable movement of laboratory specimens, pharmacy products, and related healthcare shipments across the region.

This position is ideal for a proven operations leader with strong people-management skills, a commitment to safety and compliance, and the ability to drive operational excellence in a fast-paced, seven-day-a-week environment.

Compensation & Growth Opportunity

This position offers a starting salary of $70,000 - $85,000 annually depending on experience, however, additional salary can be made available once a successful applicant has demonstration capacity to take on additional contract related responsibilities currently handled by the General Manager. In addition, our company is currently engaged in discussions regarding a potential expansion of its existing services. While any expansion remains subject to approval and final agreement, there is a reasonable possibility that the scope of this role will increase in the fall. Should that occur, compensation for this position would be reviewed and is anticipated to increase to approximately $100,000 - $120,000 annually, reflecting the additional responsibilities, operational oversight, fleet and team size, subject to the scale of expansion accepted.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Provide leadership and strategic oversight for a 16/7 healthcare transportation operation serving Interior Health facilities throughout the region.
  • Ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient movement of laboratory specimens, pharmacy products, and other healthcare shipments.
  • Monitor operational performance and implement initiatives that improve service quality, productivity, and cost effectiveness.
  • Act as the primary operational leader responsible for meeting customer service expectations and contractual service requirements.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and support a team of approximately 48 drivers and 3 operational support staff.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop employees while managing performance and succession planning.
  • Work closely with frontline supervisors and support staff to ensure consistent communication and execution of operational objectives.
  • Manage employee relations matters, performance concerns, and disciplinary processes as required.

Transportation & Fleet Operations

  • Oversee daily transportation activities, route coverage, staffing levels, and resource allocation across a seven-day-a-week operation.
  • Ensure adequate staffing to meet operational demands, including contingency planning for vacations, absences, and peak periods.
  • Monitor fleet utilization and work collaboratively with maintenance providers to maximize vehicle availability and reliability.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of operational issues, service disruptions, and customer concerns.

Customer & Contract Management

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Interior Health stakeholders and other customers.
  • Ensure contractual obligations, service-level commitments, and performance metrics are consistently achieved.
  • Lead the resolution of escalated service issues and identify opportunities to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to support new initiatives, service changes, and operational growth.

Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, company policies, safety programs, and customer requirements.
  • Analyze operational data, KPIs, and service trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, safety, and service performance.
  • Prepare and present operational reports, recommendations, and performance updates to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in transportation, logistics, distribution, courier, healthcare logistics, or a related operational environment.
  • Proven experience leading large teams in a fast-paced, service-driven operation.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Experience managing operational KPIs, budgets, staffing, and performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of transportation regulations, fleet operations, and health and safety requirements.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and relationship management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and transportation, dispatch, or logistics software systems.

Pay: $70,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
