Position Summary

The Scotsman Hotel is seeking a passionate and hospitality-driven Chef to lead and deliver an elevated breakfast experience for our hotel guests. This position is ideal for a culinary professional who enjoys working independently, values attention to detail, and takes pride in creating memorable dining experiences in an intimate luxury setting.

As our Chef, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and executing a refined breakfast service that reflects the elegance and personalized nature of The Scotsman Hotel. With only six guest suites, this role emphasizes quality over volume and provides the opportunity to showcase creativity, seasonality, and exceptional guest service.

SCHEDULE: Typically, Wednesday to Sunday | 6:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Breakfast Service)

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver a distinctive daily breakfast menu featuring fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
  • Prepare and plate all food offerings to luxury hospitality standards.
  • Accommodate guest dietary preferences, allergies, and special requests.
  • Oversee sous chef on Monday and Tuesday to ensure high standards are met and align with expectations of ownership.
  • Manage food ordering, receiving, and inventory levels.
  • Maintain proper food storage, handling, and sanitation practices in accordance with Ontario health regulations.
  • Ensure consistency, presentation, and quality across all menu offerings.
  • Monitor food costs and minimize waste.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional kitchen environment.
  • Collaborate with hotel ownership and management on menu development and future culinary offerings.
  • Contribute ideas for guest experiences, special events, wine-country pairings, and seasonal menus as the food program expands.
  • Participate in special events, focused on community specific organizations that may support local charities/organizations and personal events of ownership.
  • Report directly to the Hotel manager along with working closely with hotel ownership.

Qualifications

  • Previous five years’ experience as a Chef or Sous Chef in a boutique hotel, fine dining restaurant, inn, or upscale hospitality environment.
  • Culinary diploma or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • Valid Food Handler Certification.
  • Strong knowledge of breakfast cuisine and contemporary culinary techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and manage all aspects of a small-service kitchen.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Passion for hospitality and creating exceptional guest experiences.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor consistent with a luxury brand.
