Full job description
General Accountability:
As a key member of the maintenance team the Power Engineer will ensure that the day-to-day operations run smoothly and efficiently. The Power Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and servicing all production equipment used in the facility. Additionally, they will warrant safe plant operations and a safe working environment for all employees.
Critical Success Factors:
- Perform required routine as well as complex maintenance activities in a professional and timely manner
- Ensure that all Alberta safety codes, procedures, policies, and regulations are followed.
- Monitor alarms, gauges, and other instruments associated with plant operations and as per Alberta regulations.
- Ensure that equipment and processes operate at maximum efficiency
- Perform mechanic tasks including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting, and repair of production machines, debaggers, conveyors, fillers, Casers, stackers, palletizers etc.
- Troubleshoot and take corrective action to prevent equipment or system failures.
- Perform daily maintenance and repairs as requested by unscheduled work orders and/or department managers and supervisors and completes Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Comfortable with electrical & PLC Controls
- Perform and document all maintenance activities
- Identify and/or provide input on appropriate technology, equipment and methodology used in the operation, or having an opportunity to improve operating results or costs
- Perform chemical tests to ensure proper water treatment
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for improvement in costs, quality, customer service, and plant operations
- Make recommendations and promote best practices
- Champion health and safety, GMP practices, within the maintenance area and on any projects
- Perform other duties as required
Key Attributes of the Ideal Candidate:
- A valid ABSA 3rd Class or 4th Class Engineering Certificate of Competency
- Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems and manufacturing experience within food-related processing and high-speed packaging systems would be assets
- Knowledge of plant and equipment operations, maintenance systems, mechanical & process engineering
- Knowledge of aseptic and clean room requirements, as well as dairy industry/related manufacturing knowledge
- Ability to identify, problem solve and research alternatives within the scope of the job
- Good mathematical, analytical, and problem solving skills
- Ability to work any shift schedule with minimal supervision and in a team based environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Additional experience or education and training an asset, i.e. millwright, welding, electrician etc.
- Must be able to work a rotating shift as well as some extended hours and weekends

Work Location: In person
