We are looking for an experienced, creative, and motivated Interior Designer to join our team.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Interior Designer with a strong background in both residential and commercial design.

The successful candidate will be involved in all phases of the design process, including conceptual design, space planning, material and finish selections, technical drawings, client presentations, and project coordination.

This position is ideal for someone who combines creativity with strong technical skills, understands construction processes, and is confident managing multiple projects while maintaining a high standard of design and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

Interior Design & Space Planning

• Develop creative and functional design concepts for residential and commercial projects.
• Prepare detailed space plans, furniture layouts, and design development drawings.
• Create mood boards, concept presentations, material palettes, and visual presentations to communicate design intent.
• Select and specify interior finishes, fixtures, furniture, lighting, plumbing fixtures, hardware, and accessories.
• Develop cohesive design schemes that reflect client preferences, project requirements, and established budgets.
• Prepare furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) specifications and schedules.
• Research products, materials, and suppliers to ensure selections align with project requirements, availability, and budgets.
• Assist with furniture procurement, ordering, and installation coordination.

Technical Drawings & Documentation

• Prepare detailed interior design drawings using AutoCAD, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, and construction details.
• Develop millwork and cabinetry designs, including detailed elevations and specifications.
• Prepare lighting, electrical, plumbing fixture, and finish plans in coordination with relevant consultants and trades.
• Produce comprehensive drawing packages for design development, construction, and permitting as required.
• Review and revise drawings throughout the design and construction process.
• Ensure design documentation is accurate, coordinated, and consistent with project requirements.
• Apply knowledge of building codes, accessibility requirements, and construction standards to residential and commercial projects.

3D Modelling & Presentations

• Develop 3D models and visualizations to communicate design concepts and spatial relationships.
• Create professional client presentations that clearly communicate proposed layouts, finishes, furnishings, and design direction.
• Utilize SketchUp and rendering software to support design development and client presentations.
• Incorporate client feedback and design revisions throughout the project.

Project Management & Coordination

• Coordinate projects through various phases of design, documentation, procurement, and construction.
• Collaborate with architects, architectural technologists, engineers, contractors, trades, and suppliers.
• Participate in project meetings, site visits, and construction reviews as required.
• Review shop drawings, samples, and product specifications to ensure alignment with approved designs.
• Assist in resolving site conditions, design discrepancies, and construction-related challenges.
• Maintain organized project files, specifications, schedules, and documentation.
• Track project timelines, deliverables, and budgets to support successful project completion.
• Coordinate furniture deliveries, installations, and final project details as required.

Client Communication & Relationships

• Work directly with clients to understand their needs, preferences, budgets, and project objectives.
• Present design concepts, material selections, and proposed solutions in a clear and professional manner.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
• Provide timely project updates and communicate design decisions throughout the project.
• Represent Tailored Interior professionally during client meetings, site visits, and project presentations.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Interior Design or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of professional interior design experience.
• Demonstrated experience in both residential and commercial interior design is required.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, including preparation of detailed interior design and construction drawings.
• Proficiency in SketchUp for 3D modelling and design visualization.
• Experience developing complete design concepts, material selections, and client presentations.
• Strong knowledge of interior construction methods, materials, finishes, and detailing.
• Experience designing custom millwork, cabinetry, and built-in furnishings.
• Experience preparing detailed specifications, finish schedules, and FF&E documentation.
• Working knowledge of applicable building codes, accessibility standards, and commercial design requirements.
• Experience coordinating with contractors, consultants, suppliers, and trades.
• Strong understanding of project budgets, product sourcing, and procurement processes.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Additional Assets

• Experience with Enscape or other rendering and visualization software.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign.
• Experience with commercial tenant improvements, office interiors, retail spaces, hospitality, or healthcare environments.
• Familiarity with municipal permitting and approval processes.
• Experience managing projects from initial concept through construction and final installation.
• Knowledge of furniture systems, commercial furnishings, and custom millwork fabrication.
• Experience coordinating furniture procurement, deliveries, and installations.

Ideal Candidate
