At the City of Edmonton, we are redefining workplace injury management. We are seeking a high-performancing Workplace Injury Advisor who operates with urgency to effectively manage claim durations, minimize organizational impact, and deliver elite-level case strategy.

In this position, you will lead the end-to-end management of occupational injury and illness claims, partnering with employees, leaders, unions, healthcare providers, and the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) to support safe, timely, and sustainable return-to-work outcomes. You will apply your expertise in disability management, legislation, and case strategy to navigate complex situations, influence decisions, and balance employee well-being with operational needs.

As a Workplace Injury Advisor, you are a strategic consultant tasked with disrupting the status quo of injury management. We are looking for a professional who thrives on "moving the needle"—someone who views every claim as a challenge to optimize recovery while protecting the organization’s operational continuity. What will you do?

• Lead the management of WCB claims from intake through resolution, including strategy development, monitoring, and coordination with key partners
• Develop and implement individualized return-to-work and accommodation plans aligned with medical restrictions and operational needs
• Collaborate with WCB, healthcare providers, leaders, and unions to support effective and timely claim progression
• Apply an inclusive, equity-informed approach to case management, recognizing and addressing barriers that may impact recovery and return-to-work outcomes
• Provide expert advice to leaders on workplace injury management, Duty to Accommodate, and complex case scenarios
• Identify and address barriers to recovery, including coordinating medical assessments and workplace adjustments
• Analyze claim trends and provide recommendations to support improved outcomes and reduce injury-related impacts
• Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, collective agreements, and corporate policies

• University degree in a Social Sciences or Health-related discipline OR a college diploma with Disability Management coursework (equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered)
• Minimum 5 years of related professional experience in WCB case management, return-to-work coordination, or clinical practice
• Strong ability to interpret medical information, including conditions, treatment plans, duration guidelines, and functional restrictions
• Demonstrated experience managing complex cases and working within a multi-business partner environment (Direct experience in the private insurance, manufacturing, or construction sectors is highly preferred)
• Proven track record of reducing WCB premiums and successfully managing experience rating impacts

Assets:

• Experience managing WCB claims in a complex or unionized environment
• Experience working with multiple business partners, including unions and operational leaders
• Certification such as Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or Return to Work Specialist (RTWS)
• Private industry experience is an asset

Conditions of Employment:

• Hire is dependent on Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement

Work Environment:

• This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite

Salary Range: $48.254- $60.319 (Hourly); $92,945.890 - $116,185.250 (Annually)
