Full job description

Build a Greenhouse. Build Your Career.

Apex Peppers is building a premium greenhouse pepper operation in Eganville, Ontario, and we're looking for our first Head Grower.

This isn't a role where you'll step into an established operation and simply maintain it. You'll help create it.

Commercial production begins in 2027, so the remainder of this year will be focused on preparing our greenhouses, commissioning equipment, optimizing environmental systems, and building the foundation for a successful launch. You'll work directly with ownership to help shape how our greenhouse operates from day one.

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, takes ownership, and wants to grow alongside the business. Whether you're already leading a growing operation or you're an experienced grower ready to take the next step, we'd like to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

As Head Grower, you'll be responsible for both crop production and the operation of the greenhouse systems that support it. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing the greenhouse and property for commercial production.
  • Operating and optimizing climate, irrigation, fertigation, and environmental control systems.
  • Developing growing strategies from planting through harvest.
  • Monitoring crop health, nutrition, irrigation, and integrated pest management.
  • Establishing operating procedures and production standards.
  • Analyzing production data to improve quality, yields, and efficiency.
  • Recruiting, training, and leading the growing team as the business expands.
  • Working alongside ownership to continually improve our operation.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is technically capable, hands-on, and excited to build something from the ground up.

You'll likely have:

  • Experience in commercial greenhouse vegetable production.
  • Knowledge of climate control, irrigation, fertigation, and crop management.
  • Experience identifying and solving production challenges.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • A practical, self-motivated approach and a willingness to learn.
  • Leadership potential and a desire to grow with the company.
  • Experience with greenhouse peppers or other high-wire vegetable crops is an asset but not required.

Why Join Apex Peppers?

This is an opportunity to have a real impact.

You'll help design systems, influence operational decisions, build a production team, and establish the standards that will shape our greenhouse for years to come. As Apex Peppers grows, so will your responsibilities and opportunities.

We offer:

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Performance-based compensation opportunities.
  • Professional development and ongoing learning.
  • Flexible compensation options, including potential accommodations support.
  • The opportunity to build a long-term career with a growing Ontario greenhouse operation.

If you're excited by the idea of building something exceptional from the ground up, we'd love to hear from you.

Pay: $50,000.00-$70,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Employee stock purchase plan
  • Flexible schedule
  • Housing allowance

Application question(s):

  • How familiar are you with growing hot peppers specifically?
  • This position is located in Eganville, Ontario. Will you be able to reliably commute or reloacte?

Work Location: In person
