Director of Programs and Community Impact
Location: Edmonton and Northern Alberta
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent

A respected and growing Alberta-based nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to serve as our Senior Director, Community Impact and Regional Development.
This leadership role is responsible for overseeing multiple community-based programs, advancing strategic growth initiatives, strengthening regional partnerships, and ensuring services achieve meaningful and measurable outcomes.
The successful candidate will work alongside the Executive Director and leadership team to support organizational excellence while helping expand impact across urban, rural, and northern communities throughout Alberta.
We are seeking a leader who brings strong operational expertise, a commitment to equity and reconciliation, and a demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams and collaborative community partnerships.
Position Overview
The Senior Director, Community Impact and Regional Development provides leadership across multiple program areas and locations in community and in prisons, ensuring consistent service excellence, accountability, innovation, and impact.
This role combines supervision, organizational leadership, program oversight, partnership development, strategic communication, and regional expansion responsibilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening existing programs and services, as well as identifying and developing new opportunities that align with organizational mission and community needs.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Contribute to organizational planning and development.
- Support the achievement of organizational goals, priorities, and performance targets.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership directly and indirectly across the team.
Program Excellence and Development
- Provide leadership and support to managers and supervisors overseeing diverse community-based and correctional programs.
- Ensure program quality, compliance, and achievement of contractual and organizational outcomes.
- Monitor performance indicators and implement strategies for ongoing improvement.
- Support evidence-informed decision-making across programs and services.
Regional Development and Partnerships
- Identify opportunities for growth and service expansion in underserved communities.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with municipalities, Indigenous communities, funders, government representatives, and community organizations.
- Lead partnership development initiatives and support new business development opportunities.
- Represent the organization at regional and provincial tables.
Organizational Impact and Evaluation
- Advance systems for measuring outcomes and community impact.
- Analyze data and trends to inform strategic decisions. Produce and develop stakeholder communication through knowledge mobilization efforts.
- Support reporting to senior leadership, boards, funders, and stakeholders.
- Champion learning, innovation, and knowledge-sharing throughout the organization.
People Leadership
- Coach, mentor, and support leaders across multiple program areas.
- Foster staff engagement, wellness, and professional growth.
- Support recruitment, workforce planning, and succession strategies.
- Promote safe, inclusive, and respectful workplaces.
Indigenous Awareness and Cultural Competency

Qualifications

- A degree in a related field such as Social Work, Community Development, Public Administration, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Business, or equivalent experience.
- Significant leadership experience in nonprofit, community, government, health, justice, housing, social service, or related sectors.
- Experience leading multi-site or geographically dispersed teams.
- Demonstrated success in partnership development and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong strategic thinking and organizational development skills.
- Experience managing complex projects and organizational initiatives.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout Alberta. Ability to provide clear record checks and clearances.
