Contract. Part-time (~50%). Work-from-home. Compensation to be determined.

Candidate must be based in Alberta. Position reports to the Chair of the Board.

ICMCA is a professional regulatory organization under the Professional Governance Act of Alberta. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director & Registrar to lead our organization with passion, strategic insight, and operational excellence. This role leads ICMCA’s office, with an emphasis on promoting the CMC designation and profession, growing membership value, and supporting professional self-regulation and public protection. The position combines executive leadership, registrar responsibilities, and routine administration, working with the Board, committees, volunteers and contracted service providers.

This role offers an excellent step-up opportunity for a mid-career professional aspiring to senior executive leadership. It combines direct Board engagement with hands-on responsibility for organizational development, membership growth, stakeholder relations, and regulatory oversight.

1. Executive Director – Development and Member Engagement

  • Implement Board-approved priorities; drive membership recruitment, retention and engagement, sponsorship and partnerships.
  • Build relationships with CMC Canada, government regulators, consulting firms, post-secondary institutions, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee communications, electronic content and member resources; recruit and coordinate volunteers and service providers; support committees in delivering events, networking, and professional development.
  • Implement process improvements, digital solutions, and automation opportunities to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.

2. Registrar – Membership and Professional Regulation

  • Manage registrations, renewals and dues follow-up with the membership services contractor.
  • Guide candidates through certification pathways, requirements and timelines, track their progress, and coordinate assessments, examinations, interviews and mentorship with CAMC.
  • Maintain membership, candidate, certification and professional development records on YM database; monitor continuing professional development requirements, declarations.
  • Chair the Registration Committee, represent ICMCA on national Registrar committees and working groups, identify improvement opportunities in registration and certification and prepare reports.
  • Support the Practice Review and Discipline Committee and administer complaints and conduct procedures when required, in accordance with Institute policies and delegated authority.

3. Administration – Board and Financial Support

  • Coordinate Board meetings, agendas, reports, minutes and action tracking.
  • Maintain corporate records, policies, procedures and contact lists on SharePoint; administer banking, QuickBooks access, contracts, subscriptions and vendor arrangements.
  • Support the Treasurer with budgets, forecasts, banking and financial monitoring.
  • Organise invoices, receipts, statements and approvals for the contracted bookkeeper; coordinate monthly/quarterly reports and documentation for the annual financial review or audit.
  • Follow Institute bylaws, policies, privacy requirements and regulatory obligations; flag risks and performance issues to the Board.

4. Working Approach

  • Simplify routine work through shared systems, templates, and automation with appropriate confidentiality safeguards, oversight and human involvement.
  • Work to create system improvements and achieve efficiencies with contracted providers.
  • Focus on priorities with the Chair including outreach, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance while maintaining standards.

5. Skills and Qualifications

  • Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in association, nonprofit or similar operations, Board and volunteer support, member and stakeholder relations, financial and records administration.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills, organisation, project coordination, judgement, discretion and attention to detail, and ability to manage confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with membership databases, Microsoft 365, QuickBooks, and an aptitude for automation and AI.
  • Registration/certification experience and a CMC designation or familiarity with management consulting are assets.
