Career Opportunity
We are looking for Engineering Technologists for our Duncan Shop in the Bus Maintenance and Shops Department!
The successful incumbent will also be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive safety protocols, conducting regular safety audits, and collaborating with the department to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

What You Will Do?
- The Engineering Technologist will provide technical support and expertise to those involved in the procurement, inspections, diagnoses & repairs, overhaul, rebuilding, and support all operating systems associated with the area
- The incumbent will conduct operational tests, quality inspections, technical problem solving and quality assurance activities.
- You will diagnose, correct and eliminate non-routine complex failures on area specific systems; investigate and correct unusual, difficult or repeating problems on equipment; correct deficiencies with work methods, job plans, procedures, modifications etc.
- Ensure equipment, systems or structures are fully operational by coordinating and/or performing relevant checks, and other relevant inspections; develop and/or modify tests under direction, ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards
- Prepare various written reports, test reports, modification instructions, repair and diagnosis techniques, and analyses (e.g., cost, life cycle, and commonality) as well as general, technical and occasionally budgetary correspondence related to assignments.
- In the absence of the Foreperson, the incumbent will be performing all aspects of the supervisory role (i.e. planning, organizing, assigning tasks, administering discipline, attendance and opening Duncan Shop; You will direct Special Work Instructions to crews assigned to special projects.
- Act as main Safety & Environmental resource/ contact for the facility to liaise with TTC Safety & Environment personnel and governmental officers from MOL, MOE, TSSA, etc.
- Conduct facility Fire Safety and Hazardous Waste inspections, and submit monthly reports to management
- Document, maintain the Forepersons’ Safety Talks files, Hoist/ PPE inspection files
- Develop Safety & Environmental SOPs, such as Vehicle Maintenance Pit Safety, Hot Work Fire Safety SOP, Lock-Out-Tag-Out SOP, Heat Stress SOP, Bio-Hazard & Control SOP, etc.
- Develop course materials & deliver Safety & Environmental training to employees such as: Supervisor & Safety Compliance, JHSC Inspection & Compliance; Pedestrian & Lift Truck Safety, Racking Safety, Hot Work Fire Safety, Ladder Safety, Grinder Safety, Biohazard Control, Hearing Conversation, Spill Prevention & Control, etc.
- Document and maintain the inventory of hazardous liquid and solid materials at the facility to ensure compliance with the Ontario Waste Manifest system.
- Work with and support JHSC and forepersons to prepare for work conditions.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- Your education will consist of completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Possession of a valid Truck & Coach Technician Certificate (310-T)
- OACETT certification as an Engineering Technologist is considered an asset.
- Sound knowledge of automotive engineering design principles and maintenance practices utilized in modern vehicles and transit fleets.
- Detailed knowledge in installed accessory transit bus systems such as destination signage, surveillance cameras, stop announcement systems, passenger counting systems, communication systems, GPS systems and wireless data transfer systems, as well as knowledge in transit bus control systems, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, mechanical and air conditioning systems, door systems and hybrid electric propulsion systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the latest diagnostic technologies and be able to diagnose and correct failures in any systems and components utilized on automotive powered transit vehicles, trucks, automobiles and related shop equipment.
- Must have a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario, class "G" driver's license in good standing and will be required to use own vehicle in order to travel to various work locations or attend meetings with suppliers, etc. May be required to upgrade to a "CZ" driver's license.
- The successful candidate may be required to attend and successfully complete training programs for Direct Current Fundamentals, Automotive Circuits and/or obtain alternate fuel system technology licenses.
