Heavy Equipment Operator – Civil & Construction Operations

Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator – Civil and Construction Operations is a seasonal, full‑time position (to conclusion of construction season, approximately late October/early November 2026) designed to support our expanding civil and construction operations. This seasonal role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands‑on work, operating heavy equipment, and contributing to a team that builds and maintains Manitoba’s infrastructure.

Primary Responsibilities

Heavy Equipment Operation

  • Operate excavators, skid steers, packers, and other machinery as required for site development.
  • Perform trenching, grading, backfilling, and earthmoving tasks.
  • Load and unload materials, aggregate, and debris.
  • Assist with lot preparation, foundation excavation, and utility trenching.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and equipment readiness and report maintenance needs.

Site Development & Construction Support

  • Work with site supervisors to complete project tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Assist with layout, site prep, and material placement.
  • Support ground crews with manual labour when equipment is not required.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas.
  • Follow project plans, grade stakes, and instructions from foreperson.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all STAK Construction safety policies and provincial regulations.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Ensure equipment is operated safely around workers, utilities, and public spaces.
  • Follow safe operating procedures in low-visibility and icy conditions.
  • Communicate with dispatch and supervisors regarding route completion and site conditions.

Working Conditions

  • Seasonal outdoor work in varying weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, wind).
  • Construction season: typically, daytime hours with occasional overtime.
  • Work involves physical activity, climbing in / out of equipment, repetitive lifting to 50 lbs, and extended periods of standing or walking.
  • Team‑oriented environment with opportunities for skill development and advancement.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Competitive hourly wage: $30.00 -$34.00 per hour, depending on years of experience
  • Monday to Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm, with overtime during peak times. Hours may vary based on project workload as well.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience operating heavy equipment (excavator, skid steer, loader, etc.).
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license; Class 3 or 1 is an asset.
  • Equipment operator training or certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction site safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working in all weather conditions.
  • Physically capable of performing labour-intensive tasks when required.

Pay: $30.00-$34.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
