Summary

The Quality Manager will be responsible for managing inspection processes, quality documentation, non-conformance control, corrective actions, calibration, and continuous improvement. This role works closely with Production, Engineering/Planning, Purchasing, Shipping, suppliers, and customers to ensure fabricated, welded, and machined products meet drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with fabrication inspection, weld quality, dimensional verification, NCR/CAPA processes, and quality management systems in a shop-floor manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities

  • Lead QA/QC activities for fabricated, welded, machined, and assembled components in a custom steel fabrication environment.
  • Oversee incoming, in-process, fit-up, weld, dimensional, final, and pre-shipment inspections to ensure products meet drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Review fabrication drawings, weld symbols, tolerances, job travelers, customer specifications, inspection requirements, and quality documentation requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and complete inspection records, including inspection reports, checklists, photos, ITPs, hold points, MTRs, CoCs, NCRs, calibration records, and final data packages.
  • Manage non-conforming material and product, including identification, tagging, segregation, NCR documentation, disposition follow-up, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and rework verification.
  • Maintain calibration control for measuring and inspection equipment, including calibration status, due dates, records, and required follow-up.
  • Support ISO 9001 quality management system activities, including procedure compliance, document control, record control, internal audits, management review, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor quality trends, rework, scraps, customer concerns, supplier issues, and recurring defects, and recommend practical improvements to reduce quality costs and production delays.
  • Train and support shop employees on quality procedures, drawing interpretation, weld quality expectations, inspection requirements, and proper documentation practices.
  • Support compliance with applicable TSSA, CWB, CSA, customer, company quality, and safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of QA/QC experience in steel fabrication, welding, machining, heavy equipment, or a similar industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in a Quality Manager, QA/QC Lead, Quality Supervisor, or Senior Inspector role is strongly preferred.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, tolerances, job travelers, customer specifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with dimensional inspection, fit-up inspection, visual weld inspection, final inspection, and workmanship acceptance.
  • Practical knowledge of fabrication and welding processes, including fitting, cutting, drilling, machining, assembly, FCAW, GMAW, and MCAW.
  • Experience with NCRs, CAPA, root-cause analysis, rework verification, calibration control, MTRs, CoCs, inspection records, and final documentation packages.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems is preferred.
  • TSSA / ASME for Section II Material Spec, Section V Nondestructive Testing, Section VIII Boiler and Pressure Vessels, and Section IX Welding, Brazing and Fusing Qualifications is an asset.
  • Familiarity with CWB requirements, CSA W47.1, W47.2, W186, CSA W59, and welding inspection practices is a strong asset.
  • CWB Welding Inspector Level 1 or Level 2 is an asset.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in a shop-floor production environment.
