Position Overview

Santec Canada is seeking a Staff Developer to join our Research & Development team. Reporting to the Director of R&D, North America, this role is responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining software that supports our fiber optic test and measurement equipment.

The successful candidate will work on both existing applications and the development of new desktop software solutions that interface directly with our hardware products. This position offers the opportunity to contribute throughout the entire software development lifecycle, from concept and architecture through implementation, testing, and deployment.

As the role involves close interaction with fiber optic hardware, the ideal candidate will be naturally curious, eager to learn how our products operate, and interested in understanding how customers use them in real-world applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, debug, document, and maintain C# desktop software applications.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, architecture, implementation, and testing.
  • Enhance and support existing software products to meet evolving customer and product requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate software with fiber optic test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot software and hardware interactions and implement effective solutions.
  • Maintain technical documentation and development standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of software development experience in a similar role.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing applications using C#/.NET or equivalent technologies.
  • Strong proficiency with Visual Studio and modern software development tools.
  • Experience leading or contributing to complete software projects from concept and architecture through deployment.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and software design patterns.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Experience with user experience (UX) design and user-centred development practices is considered an asset.
