R&L Directional Drilling Ltd. is a Saskatchewan-based utility construction company specializing in horizontal directional drilling (HDD), fiber optic installation, hydrovac excavation, trenching, and plowing. Our crews work on infrastructure projects throughout Saskatchewan supporting the expansion of telecommunications and underground utility networks.

This position is seasonal, typically running from May to November depending on weather and project schedules.

Position Summary

R&L Directional Drilling Ltd. is seeking a Directional Driller / Locator to support underground utility installation projects across Saskatchewan.

The successful candidate may operate drilling equipment, perform locating duties, or assist with both roles depending on experience and project needs. This position works closely with the drilling crew to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient installation of underground utilities such as fiber optic infrastructure.

Travel may be required depending on project locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment for underground utility installations
  • Operate locating equipment to guide and track the drill head
  • Work closely with crew members to ensure accurate bore paths
  • Interpret project plans and underground utility locates
  • Monitor drilling progress and adjust operations based on ground conditions
  • Maintain equipment and ensure safe operating procedures
  • Assist other crew members as needed to support project completion

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience as a directional driller or HDD locator required
  • Experience installing fiber optic or underground utilities considered an asset
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Willingness to travel for projects throughout Saskatchewan

Additional Information

Travel may be required depending on project location.

  • 1 Driller / Locator
  • 2 Hydrovac / Backhoe Operators

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.00-$35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
