Position Title: Die Service Manager (Toolmakers)

Reports To: Tooling Engineer/Manager

Position Overview:

The Tool and Die Maker is responsible for ensuring that production dies, tooling, and related equipment are maintained, improved, and supported to meet production, quality, and customer requirements. This role focuses on sustaining tooling systems through effective maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities to support consistent process capability and reliable delivery of quality parts to production.

The position works closely with Production, Quality, and other internal stakeholders to address tooling-related issues, support mistake-proofing initiatives, and ensure tooling readiness. The Tool and Die Maker is expected to take a hands-on approach, apply strong technical judgment when making tooling repair decisions, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to die performance and quality systems.

Work hours for this position are based on operational requirements and may be subject to change to meet business needs. The role may require flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure production tooling, dies, and related equipment are properly maintained, repaired, and ready to meet customer, quality, and production requirements.
  • Support production operations by troubleshooting tooling-related issues to ensure consistent part quality and efficient press operation.
  • Work collaboratively with Production and Quality teams to resolve tooling concerns impacting part quality or process capability.
  • Update, maintain, and monitor quality procedures and documentation as they relate to tooling, dies, and tooling systems.
  • Support mistake-proofing and die-sensoring initiatives to improve detection, prevent defects, and enhance process reliability.
  • Assess tooling conditions and make informed decisions regarding tooling repairs, modifications, or improvements to ensure timely and cost-effective solutions.
  • Perform in-press troubleshooting and adjustments as required to restore or maintain proper tooling performance.
  • Maintain the tool crib, ensuring adequate spare parts inventory is available to support production and minimize downtime.
  • Identify opportunities for tooling improvements that enhance quality, efficiency, and overall tooling performance.
  • Communicate effectively with Production, Quality, and Management regarding tooling status, repair needs, and improvement initiatives.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with company policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Tool and Die Maker, recognized by the Ontario College of Trades or equivalent certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of company management and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong hands-on technical skills with a practical approach to tooling maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to perform in-press troubleshooting and resolve complex tooling-related issues.
  • Ability to manage workload and work schedules that support daily job completion and production needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions related to tooling repairs and improvements.
  • Team player and promoter of “what can I do to help” attitude.

Work Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an industrial manufacturing environment involving exposure to oil, dirt, metal debris, and operating machinery.
  • Standing, walking, bending, lifting, and working around presses and tooling are required.
  • Steel-toe safety footwear and safety glasses are mandatory at all times on the warehouse and production floor.
  • Additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required depending on task and work area.
  • Environment includes an expansive warehouse, where the temperatures range from 45 degrees to 80+ degrees (except office areas).
  • The background noise approaches 90 db. and ear plugs are required
  • Must be capable of lifting to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to moving machinery, sharp edges, and metal components.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods during the shift.
  • Exposure to oil, lubricants, fumes, and airborne metal particles.
  • Shift work, overtime, and weekend work as required by production schedules.

Pay: $34.00-$42.00 per hour
