Technical Writer

Location: Burnaby, BC
Company: ANYLOAD Weigh & Measure
Employment Type: Full-time

About ANYLOAD

ANYLOAD Weigh & Measure is a Canadian industrial technology company headquartered in Burnaby, BC, with international operations across North America and Asia. We design and manufacture load cells, scales, weighing systems, instrumentation, and industrial measurement solutions used in critical applications across transportation, agriculture, manufacturing, mining, food processing, aerospace, medical, construction, and other demanding industries.

Our products are often small components inside much larger systems, but they perform essential work: measuring force, weight, load, tension, and structural performance where accuracy, reliability, and safety matter. We support customers ranging from local equipment builders and system integrators to multinational manufacturers, dealers, and industrial operators.

We are looking for people who can understand practical technical concepts and explain them clearly. Our customers and dealers include engineers, technicians, installers, salespeople, and hands-on industrial users. Good communication focuses on making technical information accurate, clear, useful, and easy to apply in the field, without relying on complicated language.

About the Role

ANYLOAD is seeking a practical and detail-oriented Technical Writer to join our team in Burnaby.

This role will focus on creating clear technical documentation, product guides, diagrams, application notes, training materials, video guides, and marketing-support content for industrial weighing and force measurement products.

The right candidate does not necessarily need to be an engineer. We are open to candidates with a science background, technical diploma, trades-adjacent experience, marketing background, communications background, or hands-on technical experience, provided they can demonstrate a strong ability to understand real technical products and explain them clearly.

This role is well suited for someone who can combine writing ability with practical technical understanding. You should be comfortable learning how physical products work, asking detailed questions, checking facts, working with drawings and specifications, and turning complex information into useful customer-facing material.

A major part of this role will be helping our dealers, integration partners, customer service team, and sales team better understand our products and applications. Many of our users are hands-on industrial people. The ability to explain concepts visually, practically, and without unnecessary jargon is important.

You will work with an international team and support applications across many critical industries where weighing, force measurement, and sensor reliability matter. Occasional travel may be required within Canada, to the United States, and to Asia to support training, product documentation, customer visits, trade shows, product launches, and internal coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Writing and Documentation

  • Create, update, and maintain product datasheets, user manuals, installation guides, quick-start guides, technical bulletins, FAQs, application notes, and product selection guides.
  • Review existing technical documents for clarity, accuracy, consistency, formatting, and completeness.
  • Translate technical information from engineering, production, sales, and field experience into clear customer-facing content.
  • Help standardize product terminology, document structure, technical descriptions, revision control, and reference materials.
  • Write for mixed audiences, including engineers, technicians, dealers, installers, salespeople, customer service representatives, and industrial end users.

Visual Communication and Instructional Content

  • Create diagrams, drawings, comparison tables, flowcharts, product selection tools, and other visual aids to explain technical concepts.
  • Support the development of installation illustrations, wiring diagrams, product configuration guides, troubleshooting guides, and application examples.
  • Create or assist with video guides, training videos, product walkthroughs, installation demonstrations, and short technical explainers.
  • Work with marketing and product teams to develop content that is technically accurate and easy to understand.
  • Help improve how ANYLOAD explains product features, applications, limitations, and selection criteria.

Product and Application Knowledge

  • Build working knowledge of load cells, weighing systems, indicators, digital junction boxes, instrumentation electronics, mounting hardware, and related industrial measurement products.
  • Learn how ANYLOAD products are used in applications such as tanks, hoppers, silos, conveyors, trucks, platforms, lifting systems, batching systems, industrial automation, and custom equipment.
  • Work with engineering, sales, customer service, and production teams to understand product details and common customer questions.
  • Identify documentation gaps, recurring support issues, confusing product information, and opportunities to improve customer education.

Training and Knowledge Transfer

  • Develop training materials for dealers, integration partners, customer service, sales, and internal support teams.
  • Help prepare slide decks, handouts, visual guides, product explainers, and training scripts.
  • Support in-person or remote training sessions covering product selection, application basics, installation considerations, troubleshooting, and common customer questions.
  • Help ensure internal and external teams can explain ANYLOAD products accurately and consistently.
  • Support onboarding materials for new customer-facing employees and partners.

Marketing and Sales Support

  • Support technical copywriting for brochures, website pages, product launches, email campaigns, training materials, and trade show content.
  • Develop application-focused case studies that show how ANYLOAD products are used in real industrial settings.
  • Help turn technical product information into clear commercial messages without exaggerating or oversimplifying.
  • Conduct competitor and market research to compare product specifications, application positioning, documentation quality, and customer communication.
  • Work with sales and marketing teams to improve product messaging, selection guides, and customer education material.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to check facts, specifications, terminology, formatting, and consistency.
  • Ability to understand technical products, physical systems, tools, equipment, or industrial applications.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Practical hands-on mindset. Experience with tools, equipment, mechanical systems, electronics, trades, manufacturing, industrial products, vehicles, fabrication, lab work, or field work is valuable.
  • Ability to create clear written instructions, visual explanations, diagrams, or training content.
  • Comfortable working with product specifications, manuals, drawings, photos, videos, and technical reference material.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams, including engineering, sales, marketing, customer service, production, and quality.
  • Local to the Lower Mainland and able to work from our Burnaby office. Relocation assistance is not available for this role.
  • Ability to travel occasionally within Canada, to the United States, and to Asia.

Acceptable Backgrounds

We are open to several types of backgrounds, including:

  • Technical writing
  • Marketing or communications with demonstrated technical competence
  • Science or applied science
  • Engineering technology
  • Mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, or industrial technology diploma programs
  • Trades-adjacent or hands-on technical experience
  • Manufacturing, industrial equipment, instrumentation, automation, field service, or product support
  • Technical training, instructional design, or product education

A formal engineering degree is not required for this role. However, candidates must be able to demonstrate that they can understand real technical products and communicate them accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing product manuals, installation guides, datasheets, application notes, FAQs, training guides, or technical web content.
  • Experience creating diagrams, product illustrations, explainer graphics, instructional videos, or training presentations.
  • Experience with industrial products, manufacturing, sensors, weighing systems, electronics, automation, mechanical equipment, tools, vehicles, or field-installed products.
  • Experience using tools such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, Visio, PowerPoint, Camtasia, Premiere Pro, or similar software.
  • Experience working with dealers, distributors, system integrators, technicians, installers, or blue-collar industrial users.
  • Familiarity with basic electrical concepts, mechanical systems, calibration, measurement, instrumentation, or industrial controls.
  • French, Mandarin, or Spanish language skills are considered assets.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who is also practical, curious, and technically grounded.

You should be the kind of person who can look at a product, ask how it is installed, understand what can go wrong in the field, and then create a guide that helps someone use it correctly. You do not need to be the most advanced engineer in the room, but you must be able to listen carefully, verify details, and turn technical information into useful material.

This role may be a better fit for an excellent technical communicator than for a pure engineer. We value clear thinking, practical understanding, hands-on competence, and the ability to make technical material easier for others to use.

Career Growth

This role provides broad exposure to ANYLOAD’s products, applications, customers, dealers, integration partners, and international operations. Over time, strong performers may grow into roles such as:

  • Senior Technical Writer
  • Sales Engineer, where technical aptitude supports that path

Why Join ANYLOAD

  • Work with products used in real industrial and critical applications.
  • Help explain practical technology used in manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, mining, food processing, aerospace, medical equipment, and other demanding industries.
  • Join a dynamic international team with operations and customers across North America and Asia.
  • Build knowledge in load cells, weighing systems, industrial sensors, instrumentation, and measurement technology.
  • Create materials that help dealers, technicians, sales teams, customer service, and end users do their jobs better.
  • Contribute to practical work that supports safety, productivity, reliability, and better field outcomes.
  • Develop a career path that can grow toward documentation leadership, product marketing, training, product management, or technical sales support.

Applications that include examples of technical writing, diagrams, instructional content, videos, product guides, training material, or other relevant work samples will be reviewed more effectively.
