The Opportunity

Reporting to the Sanitation Manager, the Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily sanitation and housekeeping operations to ensure full compliance with safety, hygiene, and regulatory standards. This role ensures that all production equipment, facilities, and non-production areas are cleaned and maintained according to company, GMP, HACCP, and regulatory requirements. The Supervisor leads, coordinates, and evaluates the performance of Sanitation Team Leads, Technicians, Associates, and Housekeepers, ensuring the effective execution of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), accurate documentation, audit readiness, and continuous improvement in sanitation and housekeeping practices. This position plays a critical role in maintaining food safety, operational efficiency, a safe work environment and general cleanliness across the facility.


What You'll Do


Sanitation Operations & Safety Compliance

  • Oversees daily sanitation activities in alignment with Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), GMPs, HACCP, and WHMIS requirements
  • Ensures proper disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and inspection of production equipment by Sanitation Technicians and Associates
  • Verifies accurate execution of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) across all shifts and zones
  • Conducts or oversees ATP swab testing and other verification methods to validate cleaning effectiveness
  • Ensures safe handling, storage, and correct dilution of cleaning chemicals in accordance with supplier and regulatory guidelines
  • Maintains and reviews sanitation logs, checklists, audit records, and compliance documentation
  • Leads internal audits and prepares for third-party and regulatory inspections
  • Ensures all staff follow health, safety, and environmental policies; investigates and reports incidents as required
  • Manages inventory of sanitation supplies and PPE; coordinates reordering to prevent shortages
  • Oversees daily housekeeping activities to ensure cleanliness of all non-production areas

Team Leadership & Employee Development

  • Directly supervises Team Leads, Sanitation Technicians, Sanitation Associates, and Housekeepers
  • Assigns tasks, monitors performance, and provides ongoing coaching, feedback, and recognition
  • Conducts pre-shift meetings, safety huddles, and performance reviews
  • Oversees onboarding, training, and competency assessments for all sanitation personnel
  • Develops team members through cross-training, skill-building, and career development support
  • Enforces accountability and adherence to attendance, conduct, and performance standards
  • Fosters a culture of safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Cross-Functional Coordination & Operational Support

  • Collaborates with Production, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, and Health and Safety teams to coordinate line changeovers, equipment access, and sanitation timelines
  • Communicates sanitation status, delays, or concerns to the Sanitation Manager and production leadership
  • Supports scheduling and shift coverage to ensure 24/7 operational needs are met
  • Participates in root cause analysis and corrective actions for sanitation-related non-conformances
  • Implements process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and enhance cleaning effectiveness

Housekeeping Oversight

  • Ensures non-production areas (offices, washrooms, lunchrooms, locker rooms, public areas) are cleaned to established standards by Housekeepers
  • Confirms that Housekeepers are cross trained in basic sanitation tasks and can support production area cleaning during peak periods
  • Monitors supply levels and restocking in common areas; ensures waste disposal procedures are followed
  • Integrates Housekeeping schedules and performance into overall sanitation planning and audits


OTHER DUTIES

At Village Farms we are all growers at heart. Our plants and processes require in-person care and attention to ensure we’re bringing the best our plants and people have to offer to our consumers. This means other duties may arise since we work together to ensure we support all business activities – seed to sale.

This role is on-site, which requires you to work on facility at all times in a Sanitation Supervisor or directly supporting operations.

This position Shift Time – Afternoon – 2:00pm-10:30pm.


What You Bring

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Certification in HACCP and WHMIS is necessary (willing to obtain)
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Food Science, or a related field is an asset
  • Certification in GMP or Food Safety is an asset


Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a sanitation leadership role within food manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or a regulated production environment
  • Proven experience managing sanitation teams and executing MSS in a fast-paced production setting
  • Demonstrated experience with ATP testing, SSOPs, audit preparation, and regulatory compliance
  • Experience training and developing frontline staff, including performance management
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for reporting and scheduling

Knowledge & Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of sanitation procedures, chemical safety, and food safety regulations
  • Strong understanding of GMPs, HACCP principles, SSOPs, and WHMIS
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with ability to motivate and develop teams
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively across departments
  • Ability to read, interpret, and enforce safety and sanitation documentation
  • Proficient in identifying risks and implementing corrective and preventive actions
  • Detail-oriented with high standards for cleanliness, safety, and compliance
  • Adaptable and resilient in a dynamic, 24/7 production environment


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 40–50 lbs on a regular basis throughout the shift,
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when handling chemicals, tools, or equipment'
  • Frequent use of hands for operating cleaning tools, equipment, and computers
  • Frequent exposure to wet, cold, hot and noisy environments
  • Must wear full PPE including gloves, goggles, aprons, waterproof boots and earplugs
  • Able to work in dusty environment (not allergic to dust)
  • Availability to work flexible shifts, weekends, and holidays occasionally based on production schedules
