Overview

We are looking for an experienced Structural/Civil Cad/BIM technologist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the use engineering design concepts and their skill with Autodesk Civil 3D software, Revit and AutoCAD to provide site development & engineering detailed drawings for projects undertaken as part of our multidiscipline group.

This role requires a technically strong individual with deep hands-on expertise operating Autodesk Civil 3D software, Revit and AutoCAD combined with the ability to interface effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Duties

  • Prepare Layout and design drawings of mining structures & civil infrastructure
  • Develop comprehensive steel and concrete structure engineering drawings using AutoCAD, AutoDesk Civil 3-D and Revit; including erection plans, connections and coordinate with other disciplines to ensure alignment and accuracy with minimal supervision;
  • Develop cut and fill excavation, subgrade details for foundations, buried and exposed services infrastructure details drawings using AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit and Civil 3D as required
  • Modify and revise designs to address deficiencies, incorporate instructions, comments, feedback and update connection details as needed;
  • Conduct clash detection of structural models with models from other disciplines to identify and resolve conflicts;
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure alignment and accuracy with minimal supervision
  • Review and update existing drawings and documentation to reflect modifications made to existing structures on-site, ensuring accuracy and compliance;
  • Maintain organization and accuracy within the existing drawing database, ensuring records are up to date;
  • Prepare contract drawings, manage record-keeping, and perform other statistical work as required;
  • Verify on-site conditions, dimensions, and existing structural details to ensure they align with new design requirements and specifications;
  • Assist engineers with designs and calculations
  • Assist write technical construction and equipment specifications
  • Collaborate with project managers to align structural design work with the overall project goals and client objectives, ensuring timely and accurate delivery
  • Contact vendors for equipment prices
  • Assist in reviewing and resolving steel fabrication and installation issues on-site, proposing modifications and adjustments to designs as necessary;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Evaluate and assess site conditions to determine if constructed/as built excavation profiles are within the design tolerances using Civil 3-D products
  • Develop phased site development 2-D and 3-D drawings for construction
  • Construction site mapping (geolocation)
  • Material quantity take-offs (excavation, backfill, gravel road, structural steel, reinforced concrete etc.)
  • Produce construction sequences for field operations as needed
  • Coordinate with field superintendents and construction managers, design engineers, and others to meet constructability requirements
  • Design of utilities (underground waterline, wastewater, electrical, etc)

Client Support & Communication

  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills when interfacing with clients, vendors, and internal project teams.
  • Provide occasional after-hours support as required, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Prepare and present as-built documentation.

Typical Design Tasks will consist of:

  • Under limited supervision, use of Autodesk Civil 3D, Revit and Autocad to capture, create, update and maintain design; interpret and clarify engineer redlines, design notes, and as-built drawings; ensure the completeness and accuracy of all work completed
  • Understand & meet project schedule, and quality requirements with accuracy and efficiency
  • Self-checks all work performed to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to internal review
  • Actively assist in the delivery of a complete project. This may include phone or e-mail correspondence, attending meetings, and other project documents required for project completion

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or Technologist diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or Certified Engineering Technologist or (CET) eligibility for licensure, is considered an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 or more years of continuous use of Civil 3D, Revit and Autocad as a primary design tool
  • Extensive experience with 3-D modeling in grading, ground surfacing, roads, designing phased construction sites, structural steel framed structures, reinforced concrete elements etc.

Core Competencies

  • High proficiency in using AutoCAD, AutoDesk Civil 3-D and Revit .
  • Ability to read and interpret structural and civil detailed drawings, construction, and civil plans
  • Understanding of engineering principles and assembly, fabrication, and construction workflows
  • Knowledge of computer applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Organized team player able to work in a deadline driven, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven team player with experience working in multidisciplinary project environments.

Work Conditions & Requirements

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Availability to provide occasional after-hours project support when requested by supervisor
