While other engineering firms are busy maintaining their stiff upper lips, we're over here designing structural masterpieces in between dad joke competitions and the occasional strategic deployment of choice four-letter words. Life's too short for traditional corporate stuffiness, and our stress-relief tactics include both precision drafting AND perfectly timed puns.

The Role

We're looking for a Structural BIM Designer to join our gloriously unconventional team. If you think "outside the box" is where all the good ideas hang out, you might be our perfect match.

What You'll Do

• Create detailed structural drawings for things that don't collapse (unlike our willpower when someone brings donuts to the morning meeting)
• Collaborate with our team of engineers who take their work seriously, but not themselves
• Weave rebar in a concrete model like spaghetti on a fork, then channel the one thing you remember from your grade school physics class where 2 things cannot occupy the same space while doing clash detection on that rebar spaghetti and the odd shaped meatballs the clients insist on having (take a deep breath after that last sentence.)
• Create WTF documents that spotlight complex problems for clients as if you're triumphantly circling Waldo in a crowded scene – "Aha, there's your inefficiency, hiding between legacy systems and wearing a striped shirt of missed opportunities!"
• Clients often need brilliantly simple, colorful guides that walk them through solutions step-by-step like LEGO instructions—complete with satisfying "snap" moments—rather than the cryptic hieroglyphics of your grandparents' VCR manual that left digital clocks eternally blinking "12:00" across Canada.
• Find creative solutions to drafting challenges that make everyone say "Why didn't I think of that?"
• Make mistakes, own them, learn from them, and then tell us about that one time you accidentally dimensioned something in parsecs
• Navigate architectural and structural drawings like a pirate following a rum-soaked treasure map, where X marks that elusive hidden detail and every cryptic symbol is just the architect's way of saying "arrr, ye must look closer, matey!"

What You Need

• Seeking a Revit virtuoso with at least 2-3 years of digital drafting wizardry (bonus points if you've tamed the ancient beast known as AutoCAD) and the gleeful willingness to bend Revit to your will in ways that would make its developers both impressed and slightly concerned.
• If you have learned the complex and highly regarded TEKLA, serious brownie points!
• The ability to be fluent in engineer napkin sketch (or at least know when to ask the engineer for clarification)
• A brain that enjoys solving puzzles and figuring things out
• The ability to laugh when someone says "That's what sheet said" when discussing metal gauges
• A healthy appreciation for structural puns, which we consider to be the load-bearing walls of our company culture

What You Don't Need

• To know everything already (we hire people, not Wikipedia with arms and legs)
• A fear of asking questions (the only truly catastrophic question starts with "I'm sure this beam can handle twice its rated load...")
• An aversion to learning new things (if you think "continuous professional development" is a type of concrete reinforcement, we still want to talk)

Our Hiring Process

At CVL, we believe in getting the right people into the right positions kind of like how you wouldn't use a support beam as a doorstop. Our hiring process is unconventional and may have you saying “WTF… Really? Ok Cool, let’s do this!” It is also multi-phased and, yes, includes a Revit competency check that's required to advance to the next round. Consider it our version of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grade Structural Engineer?"

Don't have Revit? No problem! They offer a free trial version of their software. It's like dating before marriage try before you commit to that expensive subscription. This way, you can dazzle us with your skills without breaking the bank. Just remember, we're judging your drafting abilities, not your ability to navigate Autodesk's licensing maze (though that's an impressive skill in itself).
