CLASS: Out of Scope Branch Supervisor

POSITION: Weyburn Branch Supervisor

DESCRIPTION:

The Weyburn Library Branch Supervisor is in a leadership role responsible for the effective supervising and operating of the Weyburn Branch Library within the context of sound library principles and regional policies. The Library Branch Supervisor applies professional library skills with expertise in the day-to-day operations of the branch acting under the direction of the Library Director or designate. The Library Branch Supervisor is responsible for local staff development and supervision, collection maintenance and oversees library services and programs in the city community. The Library Branch Supervisor is part of the regional management team and assists in development of regional services and initiatives. The Library Branch Supervisor acts as secretary to the local library board and to all committees of the local library board. The Library Branch Supervisor will perform public library service duties as needed.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

· Supervise the local library branch under the direction of the Library Director or designate.

· Provide effective supervision of staff; assist with recruitment, hiring, training, developing, and coaching of staff and strive for commitment and engagement.

· Oversee and assist with daily delivery of public library services by providing reference services, operating the circulation desk and supporting overall library services.

· Assist in the development of regional and local objectives, services and policies to maximize library services.

· Assist withthe branch’s finances, banking activities and financial reporting on behalf of the Local Library Board.

· Operate the library facility in cooperation with the local municipality.

· Work with the local library board in areas of their responsibility as per the Library Act and current regional policies.

· Build and develop relationships and partnerships in the local community. Connect by developing relationships and maintaining communications with the local community and its various agencies and interest groups to promote the branch and opportunities for partnerships.

· Under the advice of the local library board, ensure programming addresses community needs and interests.

· Promote library services in the local community and respond to local needs in a timely and efficient manner.

· Oversee and promote collections of library materials appropriate to the needs of the local community.

· Be attuned to changing environments and continuously monitor, analyze, and adjust.

· Implement OHS standards for safety and security of library facility.

· Attend approved workshops, conferences and seminars to maintain professional skills.

· Other public library service duties as needed.

· Other duties as assigned by the Library Director or designate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor’s degree in business with 3-5 years professional experience; or a related field; or relevant business experience in a non-profit or public library services, including two years of leadership, supervisory and management experience; library experience is an asset; knowledge of the principles of human resource management in a unionized environment; demonstrated ability to motivate and lead staff; ability to effectively and efficiently manage work, schedule employees and priorities to support customer centered services; a working knowledge of library practices and procedures; ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with staff, trustees and the general public; demonstrated ability to do basic accounting; superior interpersonal, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills; superior oral and written communication skills; valid driver’s license and the ability and willingness to drive as required; must provide a criminal record check; physical fitness allowing the lifting and moving of boxes of library materials (up to 20 kg); availability to work evenings, weekends and some holidays.
