Job Summary

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer who bridges the gap between high-level mechanical design and shop-floor machining execution. In this role, you will evaluate customer CAD models and complex drawings, design robust work holding fixtures in SolidWorks, establish efficient machining processes, and work directly with our CNC machinists to solve real-world fabrication challenges.

If you have a deep background in CNC machining (milling, turning, tooling, speeds & feeds), a strong engineering mindset, and fluent SolidWorks skills, this position offers the opportunity to drive quality, efficiency, and manufacturability across a wide variety of client projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design for Manufacturability (DFM) Leadership: Review customer CAD models and engineering drawings (GD&T) to identify manufacturability risks, recommend design tweaks, and optimize parts for CNC machining.
• Quoting & Estimation Support: Assist the quoting team by estimating machine run times, setup requirements, tooling costs, and material yield for new project proposals.
• CAM Programming & Strategy Verification: Utilize Mastercam or similar CAM software to generate/verify toolpaths, select cutting tools, determine optimal feeds and speeds, and prove out machining feasibility for complex parts.
• Process Development & Planning: Create detailed manufacturing routing steps, tool lists, and operation prints for complex machined components.
• Fixturing & Tooling Design: Model, detail, and validate custom work holding fixtures, soft jaws and production tooling in SolidWorks.
• Shop-Floor Troubleshooting: Collaborate closely with CNC programmers, machinists, and quality control inspectors to solve machining issues, optimize cycle times, and reduce scrap rates.
• Engineering Standard & Process Optimization: Establish standardized feeds, speeds, cut strategies, and tooling libraries across equipment to drive consistent quality and cycle-time efficiency.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent combination of trade certifications and hands-on engineering experience.
• 10+ years of precision machining experience, including substantial recent experience programming, setting up, proving out, and optimizing complex 5-axis machined components.
• Demonstrated success taking challenging parts from engineering drawing and CAD model review through process development, machining, and successful First Article Inspection.
• Advanced proficiency interpreting complex engineering drawings, GD&T, datum structures, tolerance stack-ups, and inspection requirements.
• Strong CAM programming expertise, with Mastercam experience strongly preferred. Exceptional candidates with advanced experience in hyperMILL, NX CAM, or comparable systems will also be considered.
• Extensive experience with CNC machining centers and controls, particularly DMG MORI and Matsuura equipment, and Heidenhain and Fanuc controls.
• Eligibility and willingness to travel to customer sites in the United States as required.

Skills:

• Deep Hands-On Machining Expertise: Extensive practical experience in CNC machining, including process development, setup planning, fixture strategy, tooling selection, toolpath development, prove-outs, troubleshooting, and production optimization for complex 5-axis components.
• Advanced DFM & Manufacturing Engineering Knowledge: Expert ability to identify and resolve manufacturability challenges involving tool access, internal radii, deep pockets, thin walls, workholding, distortion, surface finish requirements, datums, and geometric tolerances. Capable of recommending design changes that reduce cost, lead time, and manufacturing risk while preserving functional requirements.
• Customer-Facing Technical Leadership: Comfortable leading technical discussions with experienced design and manufacturing engineers, asking insightful questions, explaining manufacturing trade-offs, and providing recommendations with confidence and credibility.
• Complete Manufacturing Process Ownership: Ability to independently select machining strategies, design workholding solutions, plan setups, choose tooling, develop and validate CAM programs, support inspection planning, and resolve manufacturing issues encountered during first-production runs.
• Commercial & Quoting Acumen: Thorough understanding of setup costs, cycle-time drivers, tooling expenses, risk factors, and production economics. Able to support quoting activities and adapt manufacturing approaches appropriately for prototype and production quantities.
• CAM & CNC Technology Expertise: Strong proficiency in CAM programming and machining strategy development, with preference for Mastercam and experience on DMG MORI and Matsuura platforms utilizing Heidenhain and Fanuc controls.
• Documentation & Communication: Ability to clearly document technical recommendations, manufacturing risks, process plans, and DFM findings for both customers and internal stakeholders.
• Mentorship & Shop-Floor Leadership: Proven ability to coach CNC programmers, machinists, and manufacturing personnel while driving continuous improvement and technical excellence across the organization.

Pay: $100,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
