Full job description

EXL Engineering Inc. is looking for a full-time Intermediate Materials Testing Technician to join our team in Golden, B.C. This position is for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic, variable, and technical environment on a small team of hard-working individuals. The work locations are outdoors at large scale civil highway construction projects as well as continuously changing job sites around the East Kootenays and Southern Interior of B.C.

The job skills that you can expect to develop include, but are not limited to:

  • Sampling and testing concrete and asphalt
  • Sampling soil from crushers and gravel pits
  • Conducting laboratory tests on soil and rock samples
  • Recording detailed field notes at job sites
  • Reporting test results on Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Clearly communicating (verbally and in writing) technical information to Project Engineers, contractors, and clients

A successful candidate will:

  • Be available to work overtime, including weekends.
  • Be able to confidently operate a nuclear densometer.
  • Be available to occasionally travel and work outside of Golden.
  • Be able to start and complete projects independently with minimal supervision (following training)
  • Be capable of walking on uneven terrain and steep slopes and able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Be detail-orientated and possess good time-management skills
  • Be capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Possess a current Class 5 drivers license
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Have previous experience with Microsoft Excel and Outlook

Training will be provided for the right candidate; however, the following experience would be considered an asset:

  • Previous materials testing experience
  • Quality Control / Management experience
  • Civil technical diploma or other applicable post-secondary education

This position is based in Golden, BC and requires relocation. Employer housing may be available; to be discussed further during the interview process. The position is seasonal with expected full-time work from April through November.
