Nova Scotia Accessibility Association (NSAA)

Experienced Driver – Full-Time, Part-Time, Casual

Location Halifax and surrounding areas

Schedule Monday to Friday, evenings, and weekends (as required)

Pay $18–$22 per hour, based on experience

ABOUT THE POSITION

NSAA is hiring dependable and experienced drivers to provide safe, respectful, and accessible transportation for passengers throughout Halifax and surrounding communities. This role is ideal for someone who is calm under pressure, punctual, patient, and genuinely enjoys helping people maintain independence and access essential services.

This is more than a driving role. The successful candidate will assist passengers with mobility needs, support safe boarding and exiting, secure wheelchairs and mobility devices, complete required documentation, and represent NSAA with professionalism, discretion, and care.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Transport passengers safely and on time to scheduled destinations throughout HRM and surrounding areas
  • Operate company vehicles in a safe, courteous, and responsible manner at all times
  • Provide respectful customer service to passengers, families, caregivers, staff, and partner organizations
  • Assist passengers with boarding, exiting, mobility supports, wheelchairs, and building access when required
  • Safely secure wheelchairs and mobility devices according to training, vehicle requirements, and safety procedures
  • Use assigned routes, GPS, navigation tools, and scheduling instructions to complete trips efficiently
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections, daily vehicle logs, trip records, and required documentation accurately
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and promptly report maintenance, safety, scheduling, or passenger-service concerns
  • Perform other related duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Class 3 driver’s license or better
  • Clean driver’s abstract
  • Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Sex Abuse Registry / Child Abuse Register Check as required
  • Strong customer service skills with a patient, respectful, and professional approach
  • Good knowledge of Halifax Regional Municipality and surrounding areas
  • Ability to use GPS, navigation systems, and basic mobile technology
  • Reliable, punctual, safety-focused, and able to work independently
  • Flexible availability, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience working with seniors, children, people with disabilities, or passengers with mobility needs
  • Experience in accessible transportation, paratransit, medical transportation, shuttle service, school transportation, or passenger service driving
  • First Aid certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to bend, crouch, stretch, and assist passengers with mobility challenges
  • Ability to push wheelchairs and safely secure mobility devices
  • Ability to enter and exit vehicles frequently throughout a shift
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving
  • Manual dexterity to operate larger vehicles and wheelchair securement equipment
  • Comfort working in changing weather conditions
