Sibwest Inc. is seeking an experienced Formwork Foreman to join our team for an upcoming 45-storey high-rise construction project in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced concrete/formwork professional to take a leadership role on a major high-rise project and work with an established construction company specializing in high-rise concrete forming.

Position Overview

The Formwork Foreman will be responsible for supervising and coordinating formwork crews on our 45-storey high-rise project in Halifax.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Site Superintendent, Project Manager, other Foremen, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure formwork activities are completed safely, efficiently, and according to project schedules and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead formwork crews on a large-scale high-rise concrete project.
  • Plan and coordinate daily formwork activities and manpower requirements.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and formwork plans.
  • Coordinate the installation, stripping, and cycling of formwork systems.
  • Ensure formwork is properly aligned, levelled, braced, secured, and prepared for concrete placement.
  • Coordinate activities with concrete crews, reinforcing steel crews, surveyors, crane operators, and other trades.
  • Monitor productivity and ensure work is completed according to project schedules.
  • Conduct daily toolbox meetings and communicate work plans, hazards, and expectations to crews.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety policies, project requirements, and applicable Nova Scotia regulations.
  • Inspect completed formwork before concrete placement and identify and correct deficiencies.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment, and formwork components required for daily operations.
  • Track manpower, production, and daily progress.
  • Train, mentor, and provide direction to apprentices, carpenters, labourers, and other crew members.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, material requirements, and potential delays to the Site Superintendent.
  • Assist with resolving field issues and coordinating changes with the project team.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality throughout the project.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in concrete forming/formwork, preferably on high-rise projects.
  • Previous experience as a Formwork Foreman, Lead Hand, or Senior Carpenter.
  • Strong knowledge of high-rise forming operations and construction sequencing.
  • Experience with high-rise forming systems such as Doka, PERI, ULMA, Aluma or similar systems is an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and formwork drawings.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety practices.
  • Experience supervising and coordinating construction crews.
  • Ability to work effectively with Superintendents, Project Managers, engineers, surveyors, and other trades.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to identify problems in the field and find practical solutions.
  • Valid driver's licence is an asset.
  • Experience working on projects of 20+ storeys is strongly preferred.
