Job Description
Senior Geotechnical Engineer
AECOM is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Tailings and Mine Waste team in Canada to lead tailings dam design and serve as an Engineer of Record for tailings management projects across Canada and elsewhere.
This role emphasizes technical leadership and project execution, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with regulatory standards in tailings management.
This position may be based in any of AECOM’s Canadian offices.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the technical delivery of conceptual through detailed designs of mine waste management. facilities (e.g., tailings dams, filtered stacks, co-disposal facilities, waste dumps) and water management facilities (e.g., mine water retention dams, seepage collection ponds).
- Fulfill the role of Engineer of Record (EOR) on tailings dams or similar embankment systems.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to technical team members.
- Perform independent technical reviews of engineering reports and designs.
- Provide expert advice to clients on engineering matters, including compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Actively participate in AECOM’s Technical Practice Group.
- Partner with clients to develop long-term, sustainable solutions.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in the tailings and mine waste sector.
- Previous experience serving as Engineer of Record for large tailings facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- 20+ years of progressive experience in tailings management, preferably within Canada.
- Highly collaborative, with the ability to build strong working relationships across AECOM and with global project teams.
- Proven experience leading and building multidisciplinary teams.
- Bilingualism in French and English.
- Valid driver’s license.
